The Hollywood Reporter has a run-down of upcoming DC movie adaptations.
This past fall, Warners quietly hired three of DC’s biggest writers — Geoff Johns, Grant Morrison and Marv Wolfman — to act as consultants and writers for its superhero line of movies. The move involved taking back the reins on projects being handled by such producers as Charles Roven (“The Flash”) and Akiva Goldsman (“Teen Titans”).
Hmm, remember how Grant Morrison couldn’t talk about a Flash movie? It goes on:
The moves have begun to pay off. Johns worked up a new treatment for a “Flash” script, being written by Dan Mazeau; Johns will act in a producer capacity on the project, which has not attached a director.
We’d heard rumors about the Dan Mazeau script before, but nothing official.
But a Geoff Johns story treatment — and producer credit? That should make a lot of Flash fans happy. Not only does Johns have a well-regarded and successful run on The Flash from the first half of this decade, he also has the high-profile Flash: Rebirth.
I wonder if we were all looking in the wrong direction. Maybe this is the Flash news that Geoff Johns was hinting at last week.
I wonder if this counts as a Cue Cullen moment?

Eh, I can’t get excited about this. Seriously, Geoff Johns has so much on his plate as it is, he shouldn’t be doing more. Not that I don’t like a lot of his work, it just would be nice to see some other writers for a change.

So Johns was brought on as a consultant last fall, which was before Flash Rebirth started. Do you think that Warner Brothers desire to make darker superhero movies influenced Geoff to retcon in the murder of Barry’s mother? Basically by giving Barry a new tragic back story it allows Warner Brothers to make their “darker” flash movie without the fan boys screaming “That never happened in the comicbook!”
A year ago I would’ve thought Johns on the script would’ve been the perfect set up for the movie! Now, I just hope he doesn’t use that “murdered parent(s)” crap in the script for the film! The best thing about Barry, in my opinion, is that unlike many of his JLA cohorts, he was a good guy without having to be traumatized into battling injustice! For all the good writing Johns has done, this one thing may be the worse thing that has happened to the Barry character.
Yeah, I’ve got to agree with you there. I’ve always liked the contrast between the comparative ‘happiness’ of the Flash family and the ultra-depression of the rest of the DCU.
