Flash #12 Solicited

DC’s April 2011 solicitations are up at CBR, Newsarama and elsewhere, including the next issue of Flash. Next month we should be seeing the first solicitations for Flashpoint, which launches in May. (Hmm, who wants to bet that there will be a Flashpoint #0 for Free Comic Book Day?)

The Flash #12

Written by GEOFF JOHNS
Art and cover by FRANCIS MANAPUL
1:10 Variant cover by GEORGE PEREZ

“The Road to Flashpoint” concludes as everything Barry Allen knows and cares about is lost. What is the Flashpoint? Find out in the upcoming FLASHPOINT #1!

On sale APRIL 27 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US, RATED T

Wow, that’s…vague.

But, hey, George Perez variant cover! I’m looking forward to seeing that one!

Also of likely interest to Flash fans:

  • Justice League International TPB Vol. 6, collecting several issues of Justice League America and Justice League Europe (featuring Wally West), including the first crossover between the two teams, “The Teasdale Imperative.”
  • Young Justice #3 with Kid Flash front and center on the cover.
  • The conclusion of Brightest Day, featuring Captain Boomerang (and probably Professor Zoom)
  • The usual team books: Justice Society of America, Teen Titans, Tiny Titans

I like everything about the cover save for the position….pictures of a runner where the perspective of his head looks like he has no neck at all…never appealed to me.

Of much more concern is that solicitation. It seems to be saying just what I’d feared…that Wally, Bart, and Jay were only going to have cameos in Flashpoint…. maybe at the very beginning and the very end of the story. I’m basing this on that picture that shows the three being torn apart while in the speed force and now “EVERYTHING THAT BARRY ALLEN KNOWS AND CARES ABOUT IS LOST.” Not ‘the speedsters’…just ‘Barry Allen’. So Thawne is going to rearrange history to such a point that only Barry Allen as a person is the same. Everyone else is either going to be changed or dead. (Well, DC’s notion of dead.)

Still no word on when Speed Force will come out? I’m pinning my waning hopes on that since don’t particularly care for where Jay and Bart’s stories have been going of late.

This is Barry’s series, and it’s his story. There’s no use crying over spilled milk. There going to be referring to him as the main character.

As to the other speedsters appearing in Flashpoint itself, Johns has been very good about using Lanterns other than Hal in his Green Lantern crossovers, and as his technique for the Flash is very similar, I’d expect strong supporting roles for the other speedsters, particularly Wally, Jay and Bart, akin to Rebirth.

Not crying over spilled milk….frustrated. I was so elated to learn of Barry’s returning…but this has been like a man being told to teach another man from overseas how to do his job because of a position opening…only to learn after the fact that the new man would be totally taking over HIS position with his place of work closing down. The fact that Wally has been shoved into the freezer to ‘keep him fresh or something’ has just made a bad situation horrendous. If I hear ‘just be patient’ from DC one more time…. I’m a Flash fan. Considering that, I’ve been EXTRAORDINARILY patient! 🙁

It may not have a background, January has been white background, emblems, and the main character covers all month, and this could just be the Flash issue of that coming out later due to the delays, sicne the pre-january covers have already been turned in and solicited for a while despite the issues not having made it out earlier.
Of course it could just as easily have all kinds of insane Flashpoint related stuff in the background when it comes out too.

Wow somehow I absolutely forgot about that. Cool then.
Yeah, the background is probably Flashpoint related “spoiler” material then.

I’m more interested in what the George Perez variant cover will look like. I tried to stop getting the variants, but I just might want to get this one.
