Lego Batman 2: DC Superheroes Featuring The Flash Available 6/19

Hey Speed Readers,

Just a quick reminder that Lego Batman 2: DC Superheroes featuring The Flash is available tomorrow, 06/19/2012. Lego Batman 2: DC Superheroes features for the first time in a Lego game: open world game play, actual voice acting and a healthy roster of DC heroes and villains. In fact, this game almost sounds like Lego Justice League.

As with most games these days retail exclusive and downloadable content will be available for Lego Batman 2. Gamestop/EB Games is offering a special villains pack featuring Flash villains, Captain Cold and Gorilla Grodd if you preorder by today 06/18/2012. Black Adam, Bizarro, and Black Manta are also included:

On that same token if one preorders the game from Best Buy or Amazon they will be privy to a bonus Heroes pack featuring Shazam (Captain Marvel), Robin (Damian Wayne),  Nightwing, Zatanna, and Katana:

Of course this also means that if you want both at launch you will have to purchase two copies of the game to get two different codes from two different outlets. Or you could wait until they inevitably release the bonus characters as separate downloadable content. Although who knows how long that could take? Of course one could just return the unwanted, unopened copy, but should one have to go through this much trouble?

That is one of the problems I have with retailer exclusive and downloadable content. Oftentimes if you want the complete game you have to jump through hoops or shell out extra money after you’ve already plopped down 50 or 60 bucks. And for minuscule additions or things that really should have been included in the game in the first place (I’m looking at you Capcom) at that. Remember when Capcom released Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and then not six months later released a much more complete game called Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3? I won’t be purchasing another Capcom game anytime soon unless they somehow manage to pull off DC vs. Marvel. And even then I would wait six months to buy it to see if they will release a slightly cheaper version of the game, with more characters, more stages, and more awesomeness called Ultimate DC vs. Marvel.

I really can’t complain too much though as I’m going to be one of those people grabbing two copies of the game and returning one effectively contributing to the problem. Oh well. I want my bonus characters!

Who else is going to be picking up Lego Batman 2: DC Superheroes? Anyone plan on preordering an extra copy for all of the bonus characters? Let us know in the comments below.

Thanks for reading,

Devin ‘Flash’ Johnson

Lego Flash looks awesome. I really hope DC doesn’t force them to switch to the new DCU costumes in the inevitable Lego Batman 3.

Would it really matter that much with Flash? They’d just throw in some lines on his suit. Now Superman…part of me still wants Superman to wear those ridiculous briefs in stuff like this. I’m even sorry the Little League webcomic went to the new suits.

    Flash is too cute.
What I really want are the actual toys Justice League Legos of Flash, Superman, Batman…and yes, Nightwing and Shazam. Is Green Lantern in this too?

I want that to be an actual toy too, Flash is so cute that I’ve been convinced to buy my very first lego video game. BTW does anyone else find it weird that all of the other bonus download heroes are referred to buy their hero names and Damien is listed as “Damien Wayne”?

Possibly as a way to let Batman fans (yet not comic book Batman fans) know that this character is related to Batman and thus generate more interest. Four years ago I didn’t even know Flash ever had his own comic book beyond Jay and the only Robin I knew of was “Dick” The Boy Wonder.

    Captain Marvel and Nightwing! Yay!
(also glad to see they went with the classic Blue-Nightwing!)

With games like this I tend to wait for a cheaper second hand copy and grab DLC afterwhile during a sale~
So I can end up with a copy of the game cheaper than the day-one release, DLC included.

      Ditto.
Which is why I want it in order to play Lex vs Flash…as Lex. So Flash can beat him up no problemo. 😛

I’m not too keen on this bonus upgrades if you pre-order or even downloadable material, but I’ll buy this game regardless. I’ve loved every Lego game so far and this chance to play Lego Flash and Lego Superman only sweetens the deal.

Yeah, they seriously need to release some more actual DC Lego figures/sets beyond just Batman. I think I’ve seen only the one Lego Superman action set with Lex.

I found the game at the local Target, but will be returning it unopened. From the look at some game play videos at YT, I’d never make it past level one. It’s the passive life for me.
    Ah well.
However, I did get to see Flash in a bit of action courtesy of some video bits via a YT search. Hopefully someone will post more than just scenes of him running, but -ha!- loved the sound effect of his running…all those footsteps speeded up! ;P
Also loved hearing the character music used for Batman and Superman. (Why, why, didn’t they use the Flash TV series theme music for Flash?)
Also hope to find out later if GL can do constructs or is he only able to bash things like everyone else despite that ring? And does Aquaman get to fight command those sharks?

Anyway, now want a Lego Justice League movie more than ever before.
