The Flash

On sale JULY 14 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US
Written by GEOFF JOHNS • Art and cover by FRANCIS MANAPUL • 1:10 variant cover by SCOTT KOLINS

The original Captain Boomerang returns as BRIGHTEST DAY continues. Meanwhile, Barry must prove his innocence to the Renegades, cops from the 25th century. Discover what connection they have to the Rogues and what travesties have occurred in the future.

Notes: The variant covers continue…but hey, Scott Kolins! I wonder if he’s drawing the Renegades.

Boomerang gets out of Iron Heights–obvious but intriguing.

    ***SPOILER for Brightest Day #0***

The teaser page at the end of BD #0 showed Digger on the ground (snow?), with Cold and Mirror Master seemingly holding him down. And Digger was bleeding, with one of his own boomerangs stuck in his shoulder. Maybe that vision of the future will play out in this first Flash arc of the series.

I’m definitely feeling Wonderland-Chain Lightning vibes from these covers.

Hey–if Barry’s SF acted like a priority distress call when he was just feeling bad…wouldn’t it keep yanking over the Speed*Force Force for stuff like this? I mean, he’s suddenly confronted with all these Rogues that he’d first think were his Rogues…surely that would create a moment of stress. Did they put a limit on that because that would get old for the others real fast. “Aw, it’s just Barry late for a date with Iris again. Get a grip, granpa!” 😛

I’m just curious…How many Flash fans “chase” the variants and how many can are fine with just the regular covers? I have been known to chase variants in the past but, with the ratio sometimes being up to 1/100 with Flash #1, I wonder if how many fans are collecting the covers or are they just being sought after by speculators. Just wondering…Any thoughts?

I rarely pick up variant covers — or, more accurately, I rarely pick up more than one cover. If it’s a 50/50 split like the Final Crisis books, I’ll usually just pick up the one I like better. (One exception: I picked up all the covers to Rogues’ Revenge.)

I have picked up some of the Flash variants as they were new, but I can only think of two that I actually chased after: The Kubert variant for Flash: The Fastest Man Alive #1 and the Black Flash variant to Flash: Rebirth #3.

i got the BN Flash variants and regular covers… but i took one look at the variant for Flash #1…. and i’m very glad i kept my “extra” money…. tired of the variant game.

the regular cover works for me this time out…. if its an artist i like (McGuinness) I pick it up… if its visually freakin awesome, i pick it up….

My LCS reserves variants for those who ask beforehand, and when they are available it’s something like AU$25. Not worth it IMO.

I adore the Tony Harris variant for #1, but I wouldn’t pay more money for a different cover. If I like the way a variant looks, I save the pic to my hard drive and make it my desktop wallpaper for a week or so.

I buy every variant. Only the Flash, but yes, I own every variant Flash book DC have published over the last 30 years.
