DC has released a preview of next week’s Convergence: Speed Force #1 through Comicosity. The pages reveal how pre-Flashpoint Wally West and his children end up trapped in Gotham City for the two-part story.

STARRING HEROES FROM THE PRE-FLASHPOINT DCU! The fastest family alive loses its powers as Wally West and his kids face an uncertain future while trapped away from home. Will they be able to outrun the chaos that follows the arrival of Flashpoint Wonder Woman? Plus, don’t miss the most unexpected Zoo Crew character of all!
Maybe it’s because I’m tired (one family emergency after the other these days) or maybe it’s because wary of anything DC does these days, but to be perfectly honest my first reactions to the preview were these:
“Art is flat. Are those actually crosshatches? Artists beyond grade school still use crosshatches?” “Wally. I should be happy. Damn it, it’s WALLY. Why aren’t I happy? Ah. Keep expecting something hideous to happen to him that will make me wish he’d been left MIA again.” “For Petessake they colored his eyes blue. Oh good, green eyes now…..no wait…they’re blue again…really? Really?” “So much for the secret identity. Dang.”
Yeah. Not exactly how I pictured my reactions on ever seeing Wally again either. Like…140-degrees from. I’m feeling letdown. Maybe after I get some sleep and lose that ‘sword of Damocles’ feeling I’ll take another look and be as happy as I should (hopefully) be.
Tom Grummett is a fantastic artist. I agree the art is flat, and I believe the blame goes to the inker. Tom’s runs on Titans and Superman in the 90s were incredible.
Yes, the eyes should be green always. Was Walter West’s eyes green or blue?
Walter’s eyes were blue. In fact, if this was Walter flicking in and out in Wally’s existence that would be kind of interesting, because, dang it, I’ve always been HIGHLY dissatisfied with the ending they gave Walter. (No matter in what form, Wally West can’t catch a break from DC.)
Me too. Walter in the mix would be great!
I still wonder what will be left over at the end of Convergence. Is new 52 Wally dead (if that’s the case they never really gave him a shot)?
Present-day New 52 Wally is still alive, we just haven’t seen him in a few issues. Future New 52 Wally may die after a few years’ worth of being the Flash, but the future is always in motion.
Future New 52 Wally already died. He died like 4 pages after showing up.
Sure…after years of being the Flash in the meantime that we didn’t see. It’s easy enough for them to have him show up from that in-between time if they want to, or even erase that death like they did with the car crash we saw him die in earlier. It’s something that happens in the future, which makes it flexible already…in a story about changing the future.
When he dies is totally up in the air, and they can bring future Flash-Wally back anytime they want to.
If they want to. (Which is obviously a big “IF.”)
I hope they find a way to bring him back. I really enjoyed Future-Wally during his short appearance.
What’s weird is that the “recap” pages acknowledge the events of Flash: Rebirth (Iris becoming Impulse etc) but the story itself seems to be set before Final Crisis/Flash: Rebirth.

I like how they say “the most unexpected Zoo Crew member of all”.
Is there anybody out there who really wasn’t expecting it to be Fastback?
Yeah. Now if it had been Little Cheese or someone…
