DC Universe: Rebirth Preview

The first issue of DC Universe: Rebirth is due out next week, and spoilers are already circulating on the internet; if you hate spoilers, then be very careful about what you read. Now Newsarama has a preview of the issue, and be warned that it is utterly full of spoilers. If you’re okay with those, go check it out and see the details discussed behind the jump.

The original Wally West is back in his Kid Flash uniform, and he tells Barry about the universe before Flashpoint. And a few other people remember the previous world too, at least subconsciously. We know from promotional material that New 52 Wally will still be in the Rebirth, so no worries there, but it’ll be interesting to see what kind of roles the both of them take. Will they interact? And what will Barry do with the knowledge of a previous universe?

Excited about this development? What do you hope to see done with both Wallys in the relaunch? Sound off in the comments!

I hate that they brought back the original Kid Flash. If they’re going to bring back Wally, they should at least bring back the adult version instead of erasing his Post Crisis history. It would make more sense, too, because the older Wally would know more about the Pre-Flashpoint universe.

I think it’s largely a visual thing: Wally’s Flash costumes are all too similar to Barry’s to stand out clearly unless the artists and readers are all paying close attention to detail. Remember back in Flash: Rebirth when they ripped Wally’s mask off early on so you could tell them apart easily?

That said, if they planned to keep him as Kid Flash or get rid of him afterward, I’d agree that it’s a major step backward: What makes this version of Wally work as a character is the fact that he achieved his dream, and we watched him every step of the way. What’s come out today makes me slightly optimistic for the first time in a very long time that DC might actually get that.

So excited! Sounds like Wally as Kid Flash is a temporary thing, he remembers everything from his time as The Flash so he’ll probably regain that at some point.

There are TWO Wally’s now, they share a name because they are distant cousins that are both named after a common ancestor. At least this way N52-Wally will not be compared to Pre52-Wally anymore but as his own character.

If they keep Wally West as Kid Flash, that means they wipe out the stuff that made Wally West so great (see the entire early run of his Flash run) while appeasing the fans that wanted Wally West back. This helps the people in charge of DC that grew up on and liked Barry-as-Flash and didn’t like the foul-mouthed Wally-as-Flash swallow a less bitter pill. If that’s true and how they play it out, they deserve a strong golf clap.

I just dont get how they could erase all of the Wally West run on the Flash. There were a lot of things that make the flash today. I mean im cook with wiping Wallys kids because i felt that ruined his comics but come on!

Actually, by the previews they did not. Wally does remember everything, even going to Linda, the thing that stole ten years of the DCU, seems to have altered a lot of history, but Wally and now Barry do remember

I wont lie, now that Wally is back i am looking forward to reading this. But only if he stays. I hope its not a temp thing like how they teased Barry fans back in the day when Wally was the Flash. I just think that Wallys run did so much to increase the Flash as a over all character and would hate to see them take that away from him.

Hey guys! did u see the new titans rebirth cover? Wally is the main titan in the cover, with a costume that seems totally new, mixing his old kid flash, with the flash costume. But the lightning is silver instead of yellow and the mask show his hair, just like the figure of the flash in the shadowed rebirth promo
