“Run Red” Review of THE FLASH #10

As we get ready for ABSOLUTE POWER to take over the DCU, there is a LOT still happening with our favorite speedsters. Truths are being uncovered – but is it in time for Wally West, the once-forgotten Flash (New52) who now is forgetting…everything? Wanna know more? Follow us after the jump!

SPOILERS AHEAD!

First, a quick apology – I am catching up after missing the review for issue #9, and that’s a shame. Especially so, since that was one of the best issues of this volume of THE FLASH.  So, let’s catch up now with issue 10 – and all the wild things happening here.

We start with a tie-in to Absolute Power, with Batman’s Justice Buster in pursuit of Barry Allen. Has Batman joined forces with Amanda Waller? Nope…it’s not Bruce in that machine. It’s, sad to say, Oliver Queen (that’s explained in other DC comics). This battle is brutal, and it’s heartbreaking to see Oliver going after Barry this way. Barry gets the upper hand for a while, even causing the Justice Buster to destroy a server farm for Waller. Still, Oliver fires a weapon that severs Barry’s connection to the Speed Force and things are looking bad (we’ll come back to this in a moment, but first…)

Jai has figured out something important, and he can explain as soon as Wade finishes changing Baby Wade’s diaper (don’t ask, just go with it). What Jai figured out?

The Arc Angles Lied.

For some reason, the Arc Angles want speedsters taken off the table, and they somehow warped reality to make it look like speedsters were putting reality in danger. But, Jai’s connection to the Speed Force allows him to see through this, and he proves his point. This makes the future Wade realize what he needs to do…

All the captured speedsters are freed!

And that’s just in time for Barry. The speedsters arrive and save the day – and Barry. Don’t think this has stopped Amanda Waller’s plans – she is getting ready for the big push that we will see in ABSOLUTE POWER.

EPILOGUE – Wally is still forgetting everything, as he is slowly being turned into a weapon for the Arc Angles. Their purpose is finally revealed – they want to murder time itself!

That’s where we leave it for now – can’t wait for next issue!

NOTES:

  • The lies of the Arc Angles are finally being revealed – and a lot of loose threads are beginning to be tied together. All of this while jumping quickly toward ABSOLUTE POWER.
  • It’s not easy to keep such disparate storylines going in one issue – but Si Spurrier manages to make this work exceptionally well.
  •  The artwork continues to be amazing! My old generation would call it trippy…but that’s perfect for this cosmic horror approach to THE FLASH.

SUMMARY:

I’ll give this one a 9/10 – one of the best issues in this volume of THE FLASH. Of course, that’s just my opinion. What to YOU think? Leave your comments below!
