“Finish Line” Review of SPEED FORCE #6

This series has taken me back to the fun of reading the early Teen Titans stories. That makes sense, especially with the Mad Mod showing up. But it’s more than that. This series has returned us to the joy of being able to go SO fast! At the same time, we’ve seen a threat that looks just beyond the abilities of our heroes to defeat. Can they find a way to overcome the danger of Symphonee? What will the finale of this excellent mini-series give us? Wanna know more? Follow us after the jump!

SPOILERS AHEAD!

Firsts, an apology for the late review – I had some technical issues that were my own fault that delayed this post, but I hope this will still be helpful.

The battle is being fought on multiple fronts. Wallace West is in the Keystone Desert, fighting a “hologram light-construct thingy” (love that description. Avery Ho is at Symphonee HQ in the Atlantic Ocean, tearing up the place (literally). She eventually fights another “hologram light-construct thingy” while our villains decide to dip out, realizing that the gig is over for now. That doesn’t completely stop the danger, however.

Our super-speedsters bring the light-constructs together, hoping they will eliminate each other. It almost works, but thanks to the timely return of Connor Kent, that danger is eliminated. We see the rest of the dangers gradually put to rest, and the S.T.A.R. scientists are returned to safety (and hopefully out of their trances).

In the end, we see a reunion of most of our heroes back at S.T.A.R. Labs, ready to resume the fun they were starting to enjoy when all this danger began. And, we have the set up for a true “Speed Force” – our younger heroes Wallace, Avery,  Más y Menos, along with Connor Kent and William Wu.

NOTES:

  • Just one note here – can we have an ongoing of this series? This is the kind of fun, light-hearted adventure that doesn’t get published often enough. SPEED FORCE got better with every issue, and the series left us at a place that could easily launch a new series.

SUMMARY:

I’ll give this one a 9/10 – of course, that’s just my opinion. What to YOU think? Leave your comments below!
