Fort Fox is falling apart! All the experiments are leading to disaster, and no one knows how to fix it. But, that’s only part of the problem. Wally has been pulled into this weird red essence, and he doesn’t know how to get out or if that’s even possible. And, how can Barry Allen be still around and able to talk? There are a lot of questions that are answered in this issue, setting us up for something even more astounding as this series continues. Wanna know more? Follow us after the jump!
SOME SPOILERS AHEAD!
Barry Allen is alive…in a way. No, he doesn’t have a way to return to normal existence, but his essence, or soul, or whatever you want to call it, still exists in this weird dimension. In regular DC continuity, we might call it the Speed Force. But here, everything about this place is different, including the name – Still Point! It’s a raging storm of red, no yellow lightning around here. But, this red storm is the source of Wally’s powers and also the source of so much trouble back at Fort Fox.
We learn the fate of Jay Garrick, and also the fate of Eobard Thawne. Let’s just say that Eobard isn’t quite himself these days, and that’s not a good thing. More on that in a moment.
The Rogues have found their way into Fort Fox, only to find everyone running away as fast as they can. That’s for a very good reason, as a monstrous entity is coming out of Still Point and into the lab – and that entity has a name that you may be able to guess by now.
All this is to set up what should be the first major battle between our hero and this monster of the Still Point. That will have to wait for next issue – and I can’t wait to see what’s next!
NOTES:
- The storytelling continues to be outstanding from Jeff Lemire. He has been given the freedom that the ABSOLUTE Universe gives and made something truly special. Long time Flash fans can see the parallels to old DCU continuity, but new fans should be able to catch up quickly as well. That’s a rare feat, but this series is doing that exceptionally well.
- The artwork continues to be next-level amazing. From the layouts to the colors and lettering, this is absolutely flawless. Nick Robles (pencils and inks), Adriano Lucas (colors), and Tom Napolitano (letters) deserve all the kudos that fans can send their ways.
SUMMARY:
This is another outstanding issue of ABSOLUTE FLASH. I’ll give it a 9/10 – of course, that’s just my opinion. What do YOU think? Leave your comments below!
