I spent the weekend moving to a new city, so posting’s a bit light. Here’s the round-up of last week’s linkblogging.
First, the Flashy links:
- New Flash forum: The Fastest Forum Alive
- Comics Nexus asks of Flashpoint, Where Is Wally West?
- Comics Nexus considers: Is Geoff Johns leaving The Flash for his new Aquaman series?
- That F’ing Monkey reviews McDonalds’ Kid Flash & Captain Cold Happy Meal toys
And the rest.
- Local Comic Shop (LCS) Etiquette Tips from Secret Headquarters: Part 1, Part 2 (via @johannadc at Comics Worth Reading)
- The Problem with the New Teen Titans (The Cool Kidz Table)
- Two pieces on Lois Lane: Lois Lane Needs Her Own Comic Book Series, As Superwoman (Geekscape) and Dean Trippe’s proposal for a series of young adult novels, Lois Lane, Girl Reporter.
- Photo of a building I drove past recently. Do you think there might be a comic store in there?
- Tom Bondurant concludes his look at DC’s ongoing series since COIE at Grumpy Old Fan. It’s interesting to see which ones have lasted the longest. #1 is Hellblazer. #2 is The Flash (Wally West).
There I was…already to join the new forum since it’s Flash specific….but then they asked for my birthday. Why? I thought only adult sites did that? I swear I’m of age to get drunk and get thrown into jail should I be of a (lack of) mind to. Saw the moon get trod on for the first time and everything ever live and everything.
Rats. (Both to the snoopy law and to being so danged old.)
It’s probably an overkill CYA to avoid dealing with the extra hoops you have to jump through under U.S. law if children under the age of 14 (or is it 13?) use the service.
All it really accomplishes (aside from giving them plausible deniability) is ensuring that kids lie about their age. Back in college, I remember someone telling me that Hotmail only allowed US residents to sign up for the service, and they verified it by making sure that you gave them a matching city and zip code. Curiously, they had a lot of people connecting from overseas who lived in Beverly Hills, 90210….
Yeah, maybe. But you’re not supposed to ask a lady her age (laughs) and I refuse to add to the joke of ‘forever 39’. Their site/their rules. I won’t break them.
As always, loved the Speed Reading feature especially the article on the Geoff John’s Flash speculation and the tips for etiquette at the LCS. Thanks for making it happen, Kelson.
Yes. Reading that sure explained why credit card companies are really pushing their cards. I wish I had a LCS, but am going to start using cash with the local nationwide-yet-struggling bookstore closest to me. If I do have to use a card, I’ll use my company visa card that doesn’t offer perks when used outside the company.
I hope the move went well Kelson. I’ve almost been in my house a year and I still have boxes in my garage.
Thanks! I know what you mean. We found boxes we hadn’t opened (or had opened for one or two items) since our last move, almost 3 years ago. One of our goals is to actually unpack everything this time and throw out/donate/sell anything we don’t want anymore.
“Where Is Wally West?” he should be in a separate on-going, like Kyle or Guy are on Green Lanterns’ GLCorps ongoing and Emerald Warriors.
