DC has released a preview of Flash #41, out next week.
(W) Robert Venditti, Van Jensen (A/CA) Brett Booth, Norm Rapmund
Professor Zoom is back, and he’s not alone! Who’s along for the ride to kill the fastest man alive? Find out here!
We get to see just how much faster Professor Zoom is than Barry Allen, plus Barry doesn’t get along with his new roommate’s pet rat. Pet rat? Well, after breaking up with Patty, he’s rooming with Hartley Rathaway, aka the Pied Piper. Confused? Check out last month’s Divergence sneak peek for a little more info on how things have changed for the Flash of Earth-Zero while we were off reading about the Convergence.
That preview just confirms my decision to drop the book. Yuck.
Not that I’ve been reading or intend to start reading and that cover makes me wince, but…(yeah, nostalgia still exists if only as a spark)
*Why* does Professor Zoom have black in his costume/lighting/wake? Did he bump into the Folding Guy or something? A vat of ink? Run through the ocean after a massive oil leak?
If I had to guess, the black on his outfit has been influenced by the TV show. And that’s probably why he’s back in the first place — which is a good decision, because DC would be foolish to keep Eobard gone after he’s gotten so many new fans in the show.
Once again, a New 52 (even if it’s no longer called that, it’s still that continuity) story is just a rehash of stories already told. A waste of artistic talent and a waste of money for the reader, in my opinion.
The fight scene between Zoom and Flash looks cheesy. But I did like the exchange between Barry and Hartley. It’s nice to see him interact with a guy outside of work talk and playing mature adult to Hal Jordan’s dude bro. It allows his character to be more fleshed out. The sight of him in the shower is also a nice touch :).
I don’t know if it’s this issue, or I just missed it before. But it appears as if The Flash’s eyes have been covered. Which I think is great, because having thee area around his eyes bare made it too easy to guess his identity.
Looks good, but that 3.99 price tag is very discouraging to me.
I’ve been trying to figure out what the pattern is for the books that have jumped in price. My best guess at this point is that it’s market pricing, but Flash hasn’t been high enough in the sales rankings even with the TV show on the air to justify it on that basis.
