“One Minute War” Begins Here! Review of THE FLASH 790

The Flash (2016-) #790Whoever your favorite Flash may be, don’t worry, they’re all here. The Flash family has been coming together, and it’s a good thing. Because, we are embarking on a unique journey for the fastest people alive – something called “The One Minute War”. It all begins here in THE FLASH. Wanna know more? Follow us after the jump!

SPOILERS AHEAD!

This issue sets up the big bad of the arc, but also gives us an update on each of our speedsters in a series of short threads. A mysterious force called the Fraction has come to Earth on a mission of conquest. To the Fraction, their tactics are “merciful” as they conquer whole planets before they have even the faintest opportunity to fight back.

What each member of the Flash family finds is that time appears to stop…except for them. People frozen in place, even beverages stopped from pouring in mid-air. All leading up to a vicious attack that creates unbelievable damage…and may have endangered one of the most important characters in FLASH lore.

Let’s look at the roll call – Wally, Linda and the kids, of course. Max Mercury. Jesse Quick (with a cameo by Rick Tyler, the second Hourman). Kid Flash and Impulse. Jay Garrick. And finally, Barry and Iris. Yes, writer Jeremy Adams is throwing the full Flash family at us, and I am definitely in for the ride!

NOTES:

  • This is a great set-up to the arc. We don’t see a lot of the Fraction, and yet we do get a full sense of just how big a threat they present. What we do get is such a welcome return to action for so many great characters. All handled exceptionally well.
  • The artwork is fantastic in this issue – though I have one minor concern. And, this may only be in the comiXology version of the issue. In the digital comic, jay Garrick’s hair is blond…not sure about that. Still, other than that the artwork IS fantastic for the issue.

SUMMARY:

Jeremy Adams keep upping the ante, topping himself with each issue. “The One Minute War” looks to be a fantastic arc, and this first issue is a 9/10 for me. Of course, that’s just my opinion – what do YOU think? Leave your comments below!
