iFanboy asked Francis Manapul how super-speed would make his life better. He answered, and DC sent them the finished artwork from the page showing how the Flash’s costume comes together in the relaunched DCU.

Manapul’s art is always fantastic.
While I don’t love the new transformation sequence, I’m happy he is keeping the ring included in the process.
I see this and all that’s missing are the words “It’s Morphin’ Time!” Good art, awful execution. Much preferred Wally’s Speed Force-manipulated costume change.
Of all the new 52 im only picking up flash and im not liking what there doing hell i may stop reading comics because marvel sucks and i like the flash(wally west) a lot
Haha! Wow. That looks terrible. Just… wow.
Wally West Speed Force Change Plus Power Rangers Minus Wally Plus Barry Allen equals weird rip-off!
Manapul’s art here looks very cool.
I like the new quick change.
Okay, I agree that it does remind me of the Power Rangers, but…
a) Fellow Wally fans: Please stop mentioning Wally’s great costume-changing schtick. You want that they should steal *that* from Wally as well? You know how DC is desperate to get the Wally fans back on board *without* actually bringing back Wally. (Yes, sarcasm)
b) The art is good and I don’t see what’s so terrible about the execution. What’s harder to believe…soft pieces of the uniform being magnetically (or whatever is the power source) driven together to form around him in a particular way…or an entire costume stuffed as is into that same ring…including boot soles and radio antennae…or is it now GPS and digital radio? Whatever, the sequence looked fine. It could be the lack of impact is the setting itself…maybe a fire is the cause of all of that smoke.
Not to mention: the Silver Age costume was frequently shown as one solid piece. Barry (and later Wally) must have had to climb into it through the hole in the mask.
The most bothersome thing about almost every Flash costume is how it’s worn over regular clothes. That can’t be comfortable!
There were hidden zippers, according to an issue I can’t remember. And by the same token, the costume fit perfectly and comfortably over street clothes. Because John Broome said so. Unfortunately, I can’t remember the issue for that either. But I’m sure it was written.
Ha! Yeah, imagine the money the Flashes could have made in selling the secret of no ‘underwear’ lines under their ‘outerwear’? The advertising…
No…wait!….No…nonono. On second thought I don’t even want to picture Barry or Wally pitching for smooth keisters.
I like it, though I will always have a soft spot for the classic Silver Age costume change.
To me, it appears the Flash logo pops off the ring and the suit….’materializes’ around the logo as it attaches to his chest.
Different.
I like it a lot! Manapul is AWESOME! I’m always open minded about change, and I like this one. And of course, the Wally fans will all say it’s ugly blablabla but I like it and I think it’s about time people move on about Wally. I liked him a lot, don’t get me wrong, but instead of dwelling on the fact we won’t have him back, I just appreciate Barry 🙂 you should all do the same, let go somethimes haha
Joey, please don’t try to pick fights on my blog. People who like and dislike the art and concept don’t fall along Wally/Barry lines, and telling all of Wally’s fans to just get over it is rude, and will not accomplish anything except make them angrier.
I’m not trying to start fights, I’m tired of wally/barry fights… I just think tthat there comes a time IMO when people should stop dwelling on the past because it will most probably not change anything. I’m not being negative here, don’t get me wrong. I’m just wondering if there will be a time when people stop holding back on Wally
Telling an entire group of people that they should all just shut up and agree with you is starting a fight.
While we’re at it…you see the irony in telling Wally’s fans to stop dwelling on the past, right? After all, that *is* the main reason Barry’s back: the people in charge at DC wanted to bring back a character who had been out of the spotlight for 20 years.
Thank you, Kelson. Your quick response (well, and a local thunderstorm) saved me from pointing out the same except in a more incendiary fashion. Any Silver Age fan who tells me to stop living in the past and get over Wally is going to either get laughed at or a virtual punch in the schnoogin.
ok… this is getting out of hands quickly and that’s not what I wanted… I never told Wally fans to *shut up and move on* I just said that it may be time to look at what’s coming ahead with Barry … and if you don’t like it then I understand, it’s your opinion. I also said that I liked Wally… IMO I stayed polite and expressed my feelings, but telling me that what I said is worth a virtual punch in the schnoogin is not any nicer
also, i thought that the **don’t get me wrong* and the *haha* would help point out that I’m not being closed minded about other people’s opinion
Funny, Pearls Before Swine covered that just a few days ago:

ohh really? Well that is rude…
I think it’s not the best way to treat people on your blog Kelson, but hey, it’s your blog, you’re the boss.
I will agree with everyone from now on and won’t state my opinion so people don’t get confused. I understand that to some people, just saying Wally in any context is offensive because he was the best…
Well i had a good time here while it lasted
You really don’t get it, do you?
“I like Barry” is fine. “I like this artwork” is fine.” “I don’t like this artwork” is fine. “I don’t like Wally” is fine.
But “I like Barry, and anyone who doesn’t like this art only doesn’t like it because they like Wally, and you should all give up on Wally and like Barry instead *haha*” is NOT. It’s rude, it’s dismissive, and adding “haha” to the end doesn’t make it any less so.
I’d like to see where I said THAT
You pretty much put words in my mouth …
instead of dwelling on the fact we won’t have him back, I just appreciate Barry, you should all do the same, let go somethimes.
I don’t see any rudeness in there, VERSUS your version
I like Barry, and anyone who doesn’t like this art only doesn’t like it because they like Wally, and you should all give up on Wally and like Barry instead
I do like Wally, and I respect every opinions, but seriously? I never said anything like wha you said.
Looks awesome! Very excited for this! Happy Barry is the lead, he is my favorite. 😀
Yes, he’s my favorite too, but Francis Manapul is also my favorite artist! I just hope that I will blown away with Manapul as the artist AND the writer on the new Flash book, I think that if he’s gien the chance he’ll do great!
As Saint Walker would say ; All will be well 🙂
