Diamond has released its September sales charts, and The Flash #1 takes the #4 spot on the chart. DC dominated the charts with 9 of the top 10 comics, and Flash was beat only by Batman #1, Action Comics #1, and Green Lantern #1.
From what DC has said before, we know that The Flash sold somewhere between 126K and 200K copies (more links in that article to older sales figures). And if three of DC’s books sold over 200K, and Flash is #4, it’s probably at the high end of that range.

Update: I had an interesting thought. Is this the first time sales have gone up with the next issue after Geoff Johns has left a series? Obviously the circumstances are unusual, but still…

Wow…Justice League majorly lost out to Justice League International? Booster over Batman and Superman? (I’m going to go away now so I can break out into hysterical laughter.)
Justice League launched the last week of August, and was the #1 comic for that month. Its September sales must be either reorders or the second printing.
Awesome news for THE FLASH! Obviously, Batman, Superman and Green Lantern would sell incredibly well being high-profile (read: movie star) characters. While this may be the first issue after Geoff Johns’ run, though, it is also the first issue after a Flash-centric line-redefining crossover, so there was bound to be lots of new readers looking in. Still, great news and it cements Flash as probably the fourth biggest/most iconic character at DC. Maybe we’ll see a Flash feature film in the next two years.

Good to see Flash ranking so highly. I hope it can maintain the high ranking long enough to see the franchise we’ve been promised finally emerge.
I’d love it if DC would just stop running this book into the ground and recognize the potential here. Though I’m nervous that DC apparently has trashed 30-40 years of history.
I’d also like to add that the 1:25 variant was an absolute CORKER!!! LOVED it.

Why is everyone so afraid of the Geoff Johns question? It’s simple numbers, not a judgment. I mean, he’s a superstar writer. People tend to follow him onto a series, and then a lot of them leave when he moves on. That didn’t happen here because it hit right at the edge of a major line-wide relaunch.
I’m just wondering if it’s the first time it’s ever happened, and I don’t have time these days to look up all the sales figures myself.
