Flash Annual #2 (via Comic Vine)Comic Vine has a 7-page preview of Flash Annual #2, on sale next week.

Find out how The Flash and Green Lantern first met when a case they teamed up together to solve years ago rears its head again in the present! It involves a foe neither of them can defeat on their own, and they might not have much luck together either! This looks huge fun, I’m a sucker for ‘how they met’ stories, and the Flash/Green Lantern team remains a favourite, whichever versions are involved. Can’t wait!

    This looks like fun.
A shame Manapul isn’t on art duties, but what the hey.
Makes me long for the Wally/Kyle team-ups again.

The art is good, the humor is good….so far no acts of bloody violence (as, btw, I hear are in Flashpoint Paradox more than expected should anyone besides me care about that kind of thing.) It reminds me of Mark Waid’s Barry/Hal team up.

If I get the opportunity I’ll buy this book. May be the only book or movie I get from DC in a very long time. πŸ™

Thanks! πŸ™‚ Am not as squeamish as I used to be as a young woman, but dismemberment kind of stuff still makes me go pale. (Horror is the one genre I won’t read for any money.)
Will pick this up. Do like Barry and Hal well enough and, God, there’s humor….these days I *live* for bromance humor.
Now if they had a lite-hearted book featuring Superman, GL, Flash I’d be really smiling. Those are MY idea of a Trinity!

The more I look at that great cover the more I keep wondering about what possible ties might exist between the power of Will and that of Speed. I mean, does it go beyond mere tailoring? One is the energy of velocity (& electricity?) and the other is of the mind. The brain is electrical and the whole universe is traveling or at least the matter within it is. Barry did well enough with Hope. (Or is that still relevant in the DC52?)

Our definition of the Speed Force is the forward motion of time and space. As time moves forward, it creates the excess energy that makes up the Speed Force. Flash (and others touched by the SF) tap into it and use this energy. Basically, Barry HAS to run to use up the SF energy. He’s a pressure value that keeps the speed force from unleashing energy and causing destruction.

That said, there are no direct ties to the GL ring. It’s only Hal’s WILL (and Barry’s ability to THINK FAST) that makes the cover possible.

        That’s interesting.
What caught my eye before was the use of ‘forward’ because God’s always saying to move forward (not overly dwell on the past and well….omnipotence and omnipresence. Not that I thought your SF was sentient like the way I thought Waid’s might be.
It is rather apocalyptic though. Barry stops running (or a successor/s because no one lives forever) and Destruction (right now being housed in The Reverse Flash) wins. Yeah, I know this book isn’t a religious thing (and it shouldn’t be) I just like fiddling with grand concepts like spirituality and cosmology. πŸ™‚

    Hey Brian,

Since you’re posting here, I want to thank you and Francis. You’ve kept The Flash on my Top 10 List for the entirety of the New 52 and I’m really enjoying your take on the world of Scarlet Speedsters, colorful Rogues, and homicidal talking Gorillas. πŸ™‚

I never realized I was clueless on getting current floppies until now. (Usually pre-ordered hb trades as have an easier time reading them.) Where does one buy this? Other than a brick & mortar because while that would be my pref, I can’t get to one. All the other places I used to buy books from aren’t advertising this. I’ll go digital, but only as a last resort because this looks like a keeper.

Never mind. Finally found it. For some reason it wasn’t coming up yesterday on pre-order lists, but now it is….or I stumbled upon the magic method of their listing stuff. (Some places list Flash under F and some under T(he), and some just plain don’t sell floppies.

It’s really too bad that Hal’s going to stuck on Oa for the immediate future. This preview alone is rekindling my desire to see DC take a page from Batman/Superman and debut a new Flash/Green Lantern team-up book.

Yep. It’s not fair. The world needs more of The Christmas Couple. πŸ™‚
Does the new and improved DC still believe in holiday issues?

Hey Brian — any chance you and Francis you liaise with the Green Lantern office and pitch an ongoing Hal/Barry book? πŸ™‚
