“So Within” – Review of THE FLASH #17

This second arc in the Si Spurrier era is getting better by the issue. A classic villain is revealed to our heroes…while Wally’s plan to be in two places at once is revealed as well! All this with some excellent cameos and you have one of the best issues of this volume of THE FLASH. Wanna know more? Follow us after the jump!

SPOILERS AHEAD!

Black Canary, Mister Terrific, and Doctor Occult are all on the case with Wally…in one location, while the “other” Wally is still in Skartaris. Warlord is not acting as he usually does, and that’s for a significant reason. Warlord has been possessed by…

ECLIPSO!

This character first appeared in HOUSE OF SECRETS way back in 1963, and he has appeared from time to time ever since, taking over a variety of DC characters. Now that he has control of Warlord, he is turning the tech they have on hand to all new purposes…and that’s not good news, not at all!

Eclipso seems more powerful than I remember (and I go all the way back to his first appearances). He presents the kind of threat that has always been difficult to defeat, but never more so than here.

By issue’s end, Jai has been sent to (the moon?), but Wally has been able to send the rest of the Flash family to the JLA satellite, where they meet up with…

Oh yeah, NOW Linda finds out about Wally splitting himself in two. That’s not good news for Wally, though there are obviously MUCH more pressing matters right now….though that’s where we leave things for this issue.

And yes, there is a LOT more I could say…but let’s not spoil this issue.

NOTES:

This review is not doing the story justice. This is easily the best issue of Si Spurrier’s run so far. We have been able to explore all the weirdness of Skartaris and elsehwere while keeping true to who Wally and his family are…and staying true to this being a FLASH story arc. I was riveted the entire issue. As for the artwork – it was amazing throughout.

SUMMARY:

I’ll give this issue a 10/10 – the best issue of THE FLASH I’ve read in a long time. Of course, that’s just my opinion – what do YOU think? Leave your comments below!
