This Week: Flash Season Zero #4

The print edition is out in stores today:

Update: I forgot to mention that DC is continuing to release 3 new Silver Age Flash issues to the digital backlist each week. Flash #124, 126 and 127 (#125, “Conquerors of Time,” was already available) include such classics as the “Space-Boomerang Trap,” “Doom of the Mirror-Flash,” and “Reign of the Super-Gorilla.”

This Week: Smoak Signals & Top Flash Backissues

The latest chapter of Flash Season Zero was released on Monday, featuring the first half of “Smoak Signals,” guest-starring Felicity Smoak from Arrow. Written by Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg, art by Marcus To with colors by Kelsey Shannon.

On Wednesday, DC adds three more Silver-Age issues of The Flash: #120-122, featuring “Land of the Golden Giants,” “The Trickster Strikes Back,” and the first appearance of the Top in “Beware the Atomic Grenade!” Stories written by John Broome, pencils by Carmine Infantino with inks by Joe Giella and Murphy Anderson.

This Week: Flash #37, Classic Flash #116-119

Flash #37Flash #37 is out this Wednesday, featuring Barry Allen trapped in the speed force, Iris West uncovering a shocking secret, and of course the “all-murderous” Future Flash taking over Barry’s life. A preview is available.

Meanwhile, DC will be releasing three more Silver Age Flash comics from the early 1960s to their digital backlist on Wednesday: #116, #118 and #119. (Flash #117, Captain Boomerang’s first appearance, is already available.) These include “The Man Who Stole Central City!” “The Doomed Scarecrow!” (not that one) and “The Mirror-Master’s Magic Bullet!” plus backup stories featuring Kid Flash and the Elongated Man.

This Week in Flash Comics: End of Bliss

Flash Season Zero Chapter 8 is out digitally, completing the story of Mr. Bliss and his circus. They’ve previously said that this story takes place between episodes 1 and 2 of the TV show, but there are a few cues suggesting that it takes place after episode 2.

DC has also added two more Silver-Age issues to its digital backlist: Flash #114-115 (1960), featuring the return of Captain Cold, Kid Flash vs. the King of the Beatniks, the Elongated Man, and the Day the Flash Weighed 1,000 Pounds.

You can read these at ComiXology, Google Play, iBooks and in theory Comics Plus (though they need to work on their search feature — searching for “Flash” should not bring up several pages of American Flagg first!)

Digital Silver Age continues with Flash #111-112: Cloud Creatures & Elongated Man

Flash 111It looks like DC has, indeed, started filling in the classic Silver Age Flash comics from the late 1950s/early 1960s on their digital backlist! ComiXology has added Flash #111 and Flash #112 this week, featuring the Invasion of the Cloud Creatures, Kid Flash Wally West’s first two solo adventures, and the first appearance of Ralph Dibny, the World-Famous Elongated Man.

Flash Comics This Week: Season Zero #3, Digital Silver Age

Flash Season Zero #3Flash: Season Zero #3 is out in print this Wednesday, collecting chapters 5-6 of the digital-first comic. “The origin of Mr. Bliss is revealed! What plans does this terrible telepath have for Central City? And what can The Flash do to stop him when he can’t even control his own mind?!” Written by
Andrew Kreisberg and Katherine Walczak; Pencils by Phil Hester; Inks by Eric Gapstur.

Flash: Season Zero Chapter 7 was released digitally on Monday. “As the S.T.A.R. Labs gang frantically tries to revive Barry, Mr. Bliss’ dastardly plan is revealed!” Written by
Brooke Eikmeier, Andrew Kreisberg and Katherine Walczak; Pencils by Phil Hester; Inks by Eric Gapstur; Colored by Kelsey Shannon.

DC is also releasing two more Silver-Age Flash comics to their digital backlist: Flash #108-109 (1959), featuring stories written by John Broome with pencils by Carmine Infantino and inks by Joe Giella and Frank Giacoia. Early appearances of Gorilla Grodd and Mirror Master. Could this be the start of DC filling in the Silver Age Flash backlist?

And that’s it for the Flash this week! Oh, wait a minute. There’s one other thing, just a trifle: Only a big crossover TV event between The Flash and Arrow! 🙂 Part one of “The Brave and the Bold,” “Flash vs. Arrow” airs on tonight’s episode of The Flash, and Part two is tomorrow’s episode of Arrow.
