Over at the Source, DC has confirmed what Ethan Van Sciver indicated a few months ago: Flash: Rebirth will run 6 issues.
Almost from the moment it was announced, there was confusion among fans as to whether it was a 6-issue or 5-issue miniseries, until the first issue was solicited as #1 of 5. Then there were EVS’s cryptic remarks about how the book might not be done in September, and eventually he stated that DC was “probably” going to add a sixth issue.
Right now that Source post has three comments, and two of them are already negative. What do you think? Is this more Barry Allen goodness, or a sign of trouble?
And, it’s interesting that DC announces things like this on their blog now, instead of sending out press releases. Still gets picked up by the news sites (and blogs), but DC gets to announce it on their own turf.
.-= collectededitions’s latest blog post: Review: Wonder Woman: The Ends of the Earth hardcover/trade paperback (DC Comics) =-.
I’ve noticed the reviews of #2 are a lot more mixed, as well. The first issue still had a lot of people writing in the “Whoa! It’s new Flash! By Geoff Johns and Ethan Van Sciver! With Barry Allen!” and this month there’s been a lot of “okaaay…can we get to the point?”
The announcement route is interesting. I remember reading someone’s post (maybe at Comics Worth Reading?) when DC launched their blog, wondering how it would affect comics press like Newsarama and CBR.
It’s very interesting to me that the primary complaint is that the pace is too slow, especially when the one thing that Geoff continually pumped in his original interviews that he was going to make this book “about speed” and going face etc etc. Doesn’t bumping it to 6 issues just make the story go slower?
