» Flash (1987-2009) at ComiXology

I missed the fact that Flash v.2 #19-21 went up at ComiXology last Wednesday sometime over the last week. Flash #22-24 will be up this Wednesday. These six feature the (in)famous Rogues Gallery party (the Trickster invites Wally West to Captain Boomerang’s Cold’s celebration of his Suicide Squad-earned pardon, figuring the Flash wouldn’t dare show his face…and he does), the Invasion tie-in issues where the Flash and Manhunter fight shape-shifting aliens in Cuba, a creepy appearance by Abra Kadabra, and the lead-in to the Porcupine Man storyline.

Unfortunately, it looks like the two Manhunter issues that the Flash crossed over with during Invasion aren’t available yet. (Neither is Invasion!, but at least that’s available as a trade paperback.) The two Flash issues read well on their own, but Flash #21 and Manhunter #8 are an interesting pair of stories, in which you see the same events from two different perspectives.

If you ever do manage to track down the Manhunter and Invasion issues, I’d recommend reading them in this order:
Flash #20
Invasion #1
Flash #21
Manhunter #8
Invasion #2
Flash #22
Manhunter #9
Invasion #3

As usual, thanks to comics.org for the older covers.

    Nope.
It’s been some time later and that new costume still looks horrible to mine eyes. 🙁

Oh, I liked the Castro stories. They were wacky and one of the best parts is that this is later referred to in a panel during Mary West’s wedding just before Waid took over. They really should include The Manhunter tie ins…very funny.

WHY-ine won’t they make a trade of the Messner-Loeb years? That was probably my favorite period of Wally personality wise. My favorite line is still “Your my best friend (Chunk). I don’t have to be nice to you.” said with all the honest sincerity of a self-centered person who still cared about his friendships enough to daily put his life on the line for them. 😀

    Great stuff!

Think so. That’s why we’ve been referring to him as DC52’s Antman. (Hm….maybe Atom Ant the first time some dastardly villain hits him with a shrink ray.)

    Huh.
Well, the ‘antennae’ have apparently been ‘fixed’ in the actual book so that they look more like The Flash; however
    spoilers:
As seen at this Scans Daily link: http://scans-daily.dreamwidth.org/3790774.html the costume just isn’t looking any better when viewed from more angles. On the plus side, at least Mercury didn’t bestow Jay with a power that demanded just a helmet and au naturel. Still must say I don’t care if Mercury was my favorite Roman God in ancient mythology, his sense of fashion was dead before he was.

Happy that Comixology is still continuing to offer Baron/Messner-Loebs run with Wally.

But, man, talk about a flashback. Invasion! Still have all four issues from when they were originally released but haven’t read them in forever. Seems to be one of the few events that is hardly ever mentioned or referenced these days unlike all the Crisis series (or at least as far as I can tell)

invasion! remains my favourite event series ever, with those 80pp books offering a massive chunk of story. It’s about time Keith Giffen ran another DC crossover. And I’m delighted the Bill Loebs Wally run is being made available digitally – that party issue, especially, is a cracker. And boy, do I miss Mary West and Chunk.

As for the new Jay’s costume, it’s still not a patch on the original, but somewhere out there the original costume is still being worn by the original Flash. He’ll be back,

Yeah, but I simply do not trust digital. Bar accident, a well-kept book is for a life time. Digital? I have to replace my computer about every 3-4 years for one thing or another…like software ops systems. When I can’t work any longer and am on a very fixed budget in a world of rising prices….I won’t be able to afford a working computer of any kind. My digital copies will be as lost to me as if my books burned in a fire.

Wish they’d make these issues as a trade.

Nicola Scott”s rendition of Flash is a lot better than the early version seen on the cover. And the way Jay uses his speed is quite different to Barry.

oh for the love of… now I gotta go pick this up sooner than later to see what all the hoop-lah with the costume etc. is about. And I think seeing a bare naked Flash with just a helmet would be hysterical. He can move his junk at superspeed to keep the disguise up! Kind of like Jay did when he blurred his face to conceal his identity. This would give new meaning to The Flash’s name!
