Flash TV News Tidbits

It was announced the other day that Kevin Smith (he of Clerks fame and more) will be directing an episode of The Flash in May. That should definitely be interesting; Smith has of course written for DC Comics before and is well known to be a major comics fan. No word yet on what episode he’ll be helming.

More behind the jump, including some moderate spoilers for upcoming episodes.

I speculated recently that the mystery villain in the mid-season premiere might be the Turtle, and that turns out to have been correct. Aaron Douglas (Battlestar Galactica) will be playing the Turtle in the episode airing January 19th.

Entertainment Weekly reports:

“In a surprisingly funny twist, Cisco [Carlos Valdes] has actually been hunting The Turtle the entire series,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg says. “To Barry’s surprise, everybody knows about Cisco’s hunt for the great white whale, which is The Turtle; he’s the only one who didn’t know about it. We love the idea that there was a villain out there that they knew about, but they just haven’t bothered to tell the audience about yet. All Barry wants to do is get faster, because if he can get faster, he can take on Zoom. He’s going up against a villain who is literally slowing him down. This is one of our best episodes coming back that we’ve ever done. It feels big and emotional.”

And as a bit of interest, Collider spoke with showrunner Andrew Kreisberg, who said that Grodd and Gorilla City probably won’t be back this season, but

“I would liken the Gorilla City thing to Ra’s al Ghul. You know, you hear about “the man from Nanda Parbat” in [Arrow] Season 1, and “the man who showed Malcolm the way,” and then you met Nyssa, then in Season 3 you met Ra’s. So, it’s a long-term thing.”

So maybe we’ll be seeing a larger Gorilla City arc next season. Were you hoping to see more of it this season instead? And what do you think about the debut of the Turtle? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!
