“Flashes of Insight” Review of THE FLASH #32

We are on the second issue of a new direction by writer Ryan North, and the series looks to be in good hands. This series now answers a question we should all have been asking about every superhero series: What would happen if people purposely put themselves in danger so they could be saved? We’re finding out here in the pages of THE FLASH. It started with offers of money to capture the scene, but now it’s become viral entertainment, and Wally is running full speed constantly, just keeping up with people who purposely put themselves in mortal danger! What’s happening, and why? And, can Wally’s new ability give him any edge in the effort? Wanna know more? Follow us after the jump!

SPOILERS AHEAD!

First, I apologize for being away for a while. Thank you for your patience!

Wally doesn’t even have time to take off his costume when he’s home with his family. There are just too many people taking too many dangerous risks, and he’s barely keeping up. He has “Flashes of Insight” (though Linda refuses to call them that), and it helps…but before he can figure out how to control this new ability, he has to save one of his Rogues!

Yes, Captain Cold jumps off a building to attract Wally’s attention. How else could he contact the Flash while all of this is going on? Snart wants to tell Wally something important. All these crazy stunts are a distraction – and someone is planning something far more deadly for Central City! The question is, who? And what kind of plan is coming into place?

The “distraction” is making Wally miss a series of thefts that have gathered up the components of a nuclear bomb! Someone wants to blow up Central City! Will Wally be able to find the bomb in time? We’ll have to wait for next issue to learn more.

NOTES:

  • This series is fun! There are some truly funny moments mixed in with all the action and danger. Wally’s solution to save a bunch of people who are jumping at the same time gives us one of the funniest scenes I’ve seen in THE FLASH in a while.
  • We get to see the humanity in this superhero, and I’m enjoying it. Wally’s work-life balance is WAY out of whack. He is trying to spend time with his family, but he’s tied up with a city full of thrill-seekers who place themselves in mortal danger, minute by minute.

SUMMARY:

THE FLASH is in good hands. This is a fun read, with a plot that allows new fans in while entertaining long-time fans as well. I’ll give this one a 9/10. Of course, that’s just my opinion. What do YOU think? Leave your comments below!
