Hey Speed Readers,
Mancave Daily has an exclusive preview of Smallville Season 11 #11 featuring the first appearance of that universe’s Jay Garrick.
Golden Age Flash meets the Rocketeer? Yes please! Definitely a look that I can get on board with. I’m still not digging what happened with Impulse but this is a look that I would have been more than o.k. with in the old/new DCU.
I have to wonder though, does he just sit around all day in his old uniform just waiting for a visit from a random superhero every once in a while? I guess he is in retirement but bingo has to be better than just sitting around all day. Then again after a lifetime of running around maybe it is nice to just sit and do nothing.
Smallville Season 11 #11 goes on sale March 6, 2013.
What do you all think of Jay’s old/new look in the Smallville Universe?
My guess? He saw Superman and grabbed his old costume jacket, then sat down in his rocker to wait.
Love this look. I was going to stop getting this as I wasn’t really enjoying their take on Impulse, but they pulled me back in, lol.
I love this look on Jay as much as I loathe the new look of Bart in both DC52 worlds. Why, why, oh WHY does he have to be…um…retired? (almost did a spoiler.) 😀
I was so blinded by the hunkiness of this Jay Garrick that at first didn’t notice what he said.
What does he mean by “…used to be Jay.” I can see him saying “…used to be The Flash.” as his former superhero title, but that’s not what he said. Anyone have an idea?
And in Wally West news: (from CBR’s article on the Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle)
“The perpetual question of Stephanie Brown and Wally West’s appearance in the DCU came up. Asked if they wanted a Wally appearance in the New 52, the crowd cheered before being told “Too bad.” Then the answer shifted towards “Never say never” before Fialkov asked fans to track down “Flash” writer Brian Buccellato on the floor and demand he write Wally into the book.”

-_-;; Keep it up, guys. I don’t need a whole lot of incentive to still return my recent DC52 statue purchases.
Nice one, DC, when you’ve already established that the decision to include/exclude Wally is way above Manapul and Buccellato’s pay grade.
“DC” didn’t say that. Joshua Fialkov is a freelance writer.
I’m reading another source that says the question and “Too bad.” was by the moderator, but they mess up the name. Larry Gannon or Larry Ganem? Am now going to have to research this…person.
Fair enough.
“does he just sit around all day in his old uniform just waiting for a visit from a random superhero every once in a while?”
I wondered about that too. As cool as the look is, in a world designed to make superhero tropes more realistic, it didn’t make a lot of sense for him to be wearing it at that moment.
It could be explained that Jay heard of the storms (or felt them?) and had an inkling that a visit from someone might soon be in the offing so donned his best duds for it.
He felt them coming through the Speed Force?
Or being retired and mobility challenged he can’t afford more clothes. Or/and he has a closet full of the same style of tough costumes that’s lasted him forever so doesn’t have anything else to wear? Or like the males in my family…hates to clothes shop. 😀
