Movement on the Flashpoint Movie – Spider-Man: Homecoming Writers in Negotiations to Direct

Variety reports that John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are in negotiations to direct Flashpoint. The stand-alone movie has been without a director since November 2016, when Rick Famuyiwa left the project. (via Comics Beat)

As far as super-heroes go, the pair wrote the story for Spider-Man: Homecoming. But that doesn’t tell us much about their directing style. They have directed a few films together, notably the 2015 comedy Vacation and the upcoming murder mystery Game Night – so it’s anybody’s guess what sort of tone the studio is aiming for at this point. (Presumably if they’re actually adapting the Flashpoint comic book, even loosely, they aren’t going for broad comedy.)

Flashpoint stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen and Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, and while it’s billed as a Flash solo film, it will also feature the DCEU’s Wonder Woman and Cyborg.

“The Elongated Knight Rises” Trailer

“Honey, I Shrunk Team Flash”, And More

The CW has released the official synopsis for the January 30th episode of The Flash, titled “Honey, I Shrunk Team Flash”. The episode will introduce an unnamed metahuman villain, and somebody close to the team will temporarily gain powers themselves.

“Honey, I Shrunk Team Flash”
THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MEN — A meta who can shrink anything he touches battles Team Flash. Cisco (Carlos Valdes) and Ralph (guest star Hartley Sawyer) get caught in his crossfire and are shrunk to miniature versions of themselves. Cecile (guest star Danielle Nicolet) realizes her pregnancy has caused her to have temporary powers and discovers she can hear other people’s thoughts, which unnerves Joe (Jesse L. Martin). Meanwhile, Barry (Grant Gustin) meets someone with a mysterious connection to Henry Allen. Chris Peppe directed the episode written by Sam Chalsen & Judalina Neira (#412). Original airdate 1/30/2018

Plus, it’s been revealed that we’ll be seeing another non-Flash villain on the show later this season. This one is Hyrax, a Green Arrow foe who’s an environmental activist. There are an unusual number of non-Flash villains on the show this season.

“The Elongated Knight Rises” Synopsis

The CW has released the official synopsis for the second Flash episode in January, titled “The Elongated Knight Rises”. It will air on January 23rd.

The Flash 4×11 “The Elongated Knight Rises”
THE RISE OF THE HERO — When a familiar villain returns to terrorize Central City, Ralph (guest star Hartley Sawyer) must rise up to defend the innocent while Barry (Grant Gustin) is detained by his trial. Meanwhile, Barry searches for the strength to keep his optimism alive in the face of his new circumstances. Alexandra La Roche directed the episode written by Sterling Gates & Thomas Pound (#411). Original airdate 1/23/2018.

The synopsis doesn’t say so, but from set photos it seems that the “familiar villain” is the second Trickster (Devon Graye).

Looking forward to seeing Ralph in action by himself? How do you think he’ll fare? Share your thoughts!

“The Trial of the Flash” Trailer and Images

The CW has released the extended trailer and official still images for The Flash‘s mid-season premiere, titled “The Trial of the Flash”. The episode will air on January 16th. One still can be seen at left, and look below for the trailer and a link to the images.

The other stills can be seen at Flash TV News. As noted at the link, the prosecutor in the story arc will be played by Mark Valley, who starred as Christopher Chance in the FOX DC series Human Target.

“The Trial of the Flash” – (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET)
BARRY FIGHTS FOR HIS LIFE — As Barry’s (Grant Gustin) trial for the murder of Clifford DeVoe begins, Iris (Candice Patton) and Joe (Jesse L. Martin) must decide how far they are willing to go to keep Barry out of prison. Philip Chipera directed the episode written by Lauren Certo & Kristen Kim (#410). Original airdate 1/16/2018.

“Suit Up” Teaser

The CW has released a new promo for the latter half of the television season, titled “Suit Up”. It features the DCTV characters getting ready for action…except Barry, who’s late as always.

The mid-season break ends on January 15th with Supergirl, and The Flash returns the next night with “The Trial of the Flash”. Black Lightning debuts after The Flash does, and includes Peter Gambi amongst its cast; in the comics, Peter was the brother of Rogues’ tailor Paul. It’s not clear if there’ll ever be a connection to The Flash show, as Paul Gambi has yet to debut in it (even if there was an easter egg cameo in the pilot episode).

Looking forward to the shows’ return? What do you hope to see in this half of the season?
