Quick note: Danielle Panabaker and Carlos Valdes will appear as Caitlin Snow and Cisco Ramon on tonight’s episode of Arrow. The characters, based on Killer Frost and Vibe, are members of the Flash supporting cast and will appear as regulars on that show if the CW picks it up as a series. This Week: Flash #29, Rogues Rebellion #6, Digital Crossfire
This week sees the release of TWO Flash comic books (how often does that happen?), the final issues written by Brian Buccellato. The first issue of the Francis Manapul/Brian Buccellato run on Detective Comics has also arrived in stores today ships next week. (Oops – I saw a preview and didn’t check the date on it.)
The Flash #29: Written by Brian Buccellato, art by Agustin Padilla. Flash and Deadman team up to find the supernatural Keystone Killer before he strikes again. It’s a mystery that may — or may not — answer the question of who really killed Barry Allen’s mother in the post-Flashpoint timeline. Preview at Hero Complex.
Forever Evil: Rogues Rebellion #6 (of 6): The Rogues battle Gorilla Grodd, Parasite and a slew of the Crime Syndicate’s co-opted thugs in the ruins of the Gem Cities. The outcome doesn’t look good for the Rogues, but these blue-collar opportunists never back away from a fight! Written by Brian Buccellato, art by Scott Hepburn. Preview at DC Comics.
And in digital backissues…
The Flash #184: Crossfire Part One. His allies have been taken out of play one by one, and now Wally West is caught between the New Rogues in Central City and the Thinker’s total control of Keystone City. Written by Geoff Johns, art by Scott Kolins and Doug Hazlewood.
This Week: Digital Trickster (Flash #183)
There aren’t any new Flash comics this week, unless he appears in one of the Justice League books. Speaking of which, the Justice League: Trinity War hardcover collection is now available.
DC’s digital backlist jumps ahead 20 issues over the last Flash release, since issues #164-182 are already available online. These issues feature:
- “Wonderland” by Geoff Johns and Angel Unzueta, placing Wally West in an alternate reality where he’s powerless, allies are enemies, and the Flash never existed.
- “Blood Will Run” by Geoff Johns and Scott Kolins, in which cult leader Cicada decides to undo all the lifesaving the Flash has done over the years.
- “Birthright” by Johns & Kolins, in which an old flame of Wally’s leaves behind an infant with lightning in his eyes.
- One-off stories by Johns & Kolins, introducing new Rogues like Tar Pit, Peek-a-Boo, and Fallout, or bringing back older characters like Chunk, Grodd, and Captain Cold.
Flash #183 is avaialble on ComiXology this week. The Johns/Kolins story (with a cover by Brian Bolland) is a prologue to “Crossfire,” and introduces Axel Walker, the second Trickster.
This Week: all-new Flash #29 and digital Flash #163
Flash #29 by Brian Buccellato and Patrick Zircher is out today. You can find a preview on DC’s blog.
The Flash and Deadman team up to stop the Keystone Killer! How far back do the killings go, and is his target the key? What or who are the “Fletchers”?
And in digital backissues, we have….
The Flash #163 (1987-2008 series)
A mysterious villain has rigged five bombs to simultaneously kill the Flash, Superman, Batman, Green Lantern and Aquaman. Can the Flash rescue them all in a single heartbeat? – Written by Pat McGrealwith art by Ron Lim and Dough Hazlewood, cover by Steve Lightle.
This connects the re-releases with the next big section that’s already available digitally: Flash #164-182, covering “Wonderland” by Geoff Johns and Angel Unzueta plus a full year of the Geoff Johns/Scott Kolins run on the Wally West series (including “Blood to Run” and the stories collected in “Rogues”) have been available for a while now.
This would make the digital series complete from #1 through #182…except that DC still hasn’t released #116-119 from the Waid/Augustyn run, featuring the second half of “Race Against Time” and a “Final Night” tie-in.
Here’s hoping for a “Flash 102” sale sometime this year to fill in the gaps.
This Week: Rogues Rebellion #5, Gorilla Warfare HC, Shazam
Flash comics out this week include the latest issue of Forever Evil: Rogues Rebellion by Brian Buccellato and Scott Hepburn. Crave Online has a preview
Things are not looking good for the Rogues ever since they refused the Crime Syndicate’s edicts to fall in line. They’ve had to run the gauntlet of every supervillain coming out of the woodwork to punish them in the name of the Crime Syndicate, and now they’ve been rounded up by the new-look Royal Flush gang on the way to their doom. How are they going to get out of this jam? Possibly not in one piece.
Also out this week: The hardcover collection of The Flash Vol.3: Gorilla Warfare. This book collects the New 52 Flash #13-19 by Brian Buccellato and Francis Manapul with additional art by Marcus To, Ryan Winn, and Marcio Takara.
When Grodd and his army descend on Central City, The Flash will have to contend with a threat that’s murderous, ruthless and without principle. The Flash will need the help of the Rogues if he wants to keep himself and Central City alive.
And in digital backissues, Flash #162 (Brian Augustyn, Paul Pelletier, Doug Hazlewood; cover by Steve Lightle) has the Flash (Wally West) and Captain Marvel going up against the villainous sorcery of Felix Faust.
