Speed Reading: Middle Generation, Sonic, Dark Flash, and More

Some end-of-the-week linkblogging

Collected Editions considers DC’s middle generation and the Nightwing problem — Dick Grayson, Wally West, Donna Troy, Kyle Rayner, etc. — and what DC’s future might have in store for them after Superman returns from New Krypton and Bruce Wayne returns from…wherever he is.

Factpile wants to know who would win in a fight: Sonic the Hedgehog vs. the Flash.

The Flash-Back Podcast reviews the “Dark Flash” storyline from the Mark Waid/Brian Augustyn run.

Crimson Lightning has found a photo of people in Flash and Quicksilver costumes at Chicago Comic-Con last week.

Around the Web

DVDs Worth Watching notes that the next DC Animated film (after Superman/Batman: Public Enemies) will be Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths. No word on whether it’ll adapt the original “Crisis on Earth-One” and “Crisis on Earth-Two” story or something else entirely.

Here’s a great mock-up of an article by Peter Parker on The Mutant Problem, complete with sidebar photos and profiles. (via Robot6)

Even though I’ve been a Sonic Fan since I was seven, I have to admit the Flash outclasses my favorite hedgehog.

Thanks for telling us about that podcast. I enjoyed listening to people talking about The Flash, even if I was bugged by the opinions expressed therein.

And the podcast where they talk about “The Return of Barry Allen” just about drove me nuts. Part of me thought, “Get some real Flash fans on there,” which is kinda unfair, but man.

That said, the art WAS ugly as sin in those days.

I have to admit, I haven’t actually listened to the last few episodes yet. 🙁 For whatever reason, even when I’ve saved a copy of the audio to my phone, it always takes me forever to get around to listening to podcasts. I make an extra effort with interviews, but even then it takes me a while.

I take it they were less than impressed by Greg LaRocque’s art, huh?

Not only that. One of the dudes (I’m terrible with names) said he thought tRoBA was “terrible” in every way. I can give him the art, but complaints about Max Mercury being a token seller at the subway seemed to be from the perspective of one from the future – kinda unfair. But that happens, I guess. But having no love for any of it? Too much for me. I want to comment on their blog but I’d like to have my tact in-hand first, if possible.

Still glad to revisit those stories, though.

😯 The story that is largely credited with putting the Flash “back on the map” is “terrible in every way?”

Wow. I’m going to have to listen to this just for the shock value.
