I missed it in the build-up to Comic-Con, but Collected Editions’s latest post on upcoming DC collections includes a sighting of The Flash Omnibus by Geoff Johns Vol. 2 with an April 2012 release date. The current placeholder cover is from Flash #200 (the end of Blitz), but the site speculates that it will likely cover “Rogues” and “Crossfire,” roughly The Flash v.2 #177-191. If the listed page count of 648 is accurate (and not also a placeholder), the hardcover could easily run through “Blitz.”
The first volume clocked in at 448 pages and included Flash v.2 #164-176 plus Iron Heights, the Flash tie-in for Our Worlds At War and Flash Secret Files #3.
I’ve been speculating that the series of massive hardcovers would take three or four volumes to cover Geoff Johns’ run on Wally West’s series, then one more for Flash: Rebirth, Blackest Night: The Flash, Flash Secret Files 2010 and Flash vol.3, which should all fit in a roughly 500-page volume.
Hey did you buy the first omnibus? I really want Johns’ Flash run collected like that but I’ve heard the book is actually poorly made. If you have bought it could you do a review on the quality of the book, I’m sure everyone who comes here knows the stories are worth it but I’m curious of the paper quality, binding, hardcover, etc. Thanks!
I have the omnibus and I think the quality is very nice. It’s hardcover with a dust jacket, and it’s printed larger than the original comics, so you can really see detail in the artwork. (Though some of the art is poor until Kollins joins.) And it includes Bolland covers. I didn’t really like Johns’s first story, but this is a nice collection.
Are the covers at the start of each issue, or a gallery at the back? Are they just the images, or do they have the logo etc?

Aw…If I am ever to buy anything from Geoff Johns again in reference to Flash I was hoping this would have Crosswinds, Blitz, and Ignition so I could have the only GJ stories I truly fell for in one volume on nice, fresh paper.
Also, am more pining for a Baron & Messner-Loebs Omnibus collection.(I’ve given up on ever seeing one of the Waid years.)
Btw, are they done making archives of the early Barry years yet?
I’m not sure DC will ever finish with the early Barry years. They keep getting a few years in and then deciding to switch formats and start over.
The last set of Flash Archives (vol.5) came out in 2009, and brought the collection up through 1963. They seemed to be coming out roughly every 3–4 years, so if DC doesn’t completely shutter the Archive line next year, we might see a vol.6 in late 2012 or in 2013.
At the rate they’re going, though, (8 issues/book, 1 book every 3–4 years), it’ll take them until the end of this century to work their way up to the Trial storyline.
I’m hoping with the Showcase collection of the Trial, they’ll pick things up in that series again. At one volume a year, they could finish the whole series in about a decade.
Omygaw….I’m never going to get a Wally omnibus NOT John’s, am I? That cinches it. Hope those bookstores I contacted get back to me soon on bulk buying.
No, Savitar, they are promoting Johns, not placating Wally fans. My reasoning on this is that he is their most prominent writer and that (last I heard) they are making a Flash film to which Johns name is tied to as well. If they had enough material from Rebirth on to make an Omnibus and thought it would sell right now…that’s what they would be doing instead. IMHO.

The Trial? I’m just hoping they get to issue 174 and the end of Infantino’s time on the book. It’d only take three more volumes. Less if DC would put more than ten issues in a volume.
I really hope that Showcase Presents The Flash vol 4 comes sooner rather than later. It’d be so cool to have all of Infantino’s Silver Age run.
Agree with the Baron/Messner-Loeb collection idea. Even if it’s not a straight collection of issues (such as #1-12 for example), something like a Greatest Stories collection from that time would be fine, anything would be appreciated.
Given the fans’ uproar and questioning over the current status of Wally, I find it extremely odd that DC is now releasing omnibuses of Johns’ run with the character, for whom today, Johns seems to dismiss outright. It’s as if DC is trying to placate the fans for Wally’s absence by giving them these stories.
DC is clearly releasing these books because they feature Geoff Johns, and they know his name will sell them — not because they feature Wally West. Otherwise they’d have started with the Waid years or earlier. I don’t see anything conciliatory toward Wally West fans in this at all.
Yes! Sorry I duplicated you there just a moment ago, but apparently I hadn’t scrolled down enough to see your reply to Savitar. Finally, someone who openly agrees with me on this..been saying it here and there since the first book was announced. Everyone else has been quiet or rolling their eyes about my being ‘anti-Johns’ like he was God incarnate. He’s not my favorite Flash writer or even my third favorite. Just for those three stories he did. The man is a great writer of *villians* and I like *heroes*. In fact, it took awhile for me to realize it because everyone else was tooting his horns o much that…honestly, there’s only a handful of things he’s done that I actually liked. Just like I really didn’t care for the majority of Waid’s stories, but I like a lot more of his than John’s. Overall, I preferred Messner-Loeb’s stories and ones like them.
Then why did DC let all the previous Johns’ TPBs go out-of-print? Amazon’s quoted prices for the Blitz TPB are outrageous.
I do agree with Kyer, he really isn’t one of my favorite writers. I was really discouraged by Blackest Night and his handling of the other color Corps. In fact, his favorite work of mine was on the last Hawkman title.
But I’m not going to buy any TPB just because he has his name in the credits. I would buy this book because it features Wally. If DC had any smarts, they would reprint more of Waid’s run, and begin collecting Baron/Messner-Loeb’s run. Their names would make me buy a TPB.
I know that, you know that…a lot of Wally fans know that because they’d jump at the chance to buy a Waid series of trades….but this is DC we are talking about. DC, currently headed by a bunch of fanboys of the original Super Friends and themselves…and they had some sort of feud with Waid over Waid’s honesty about something or other which apparently bruised their overinflated egos or something…I’m not sure…but the gist of it is they wouldn’t even let Waid do the Retroactive book! Agh!
Hope they do one on Waid just want the Dark FLash Saga, The Chain Lighting.. etc.
