More DC Speedsters

  • Justice Society of America #43 (starring Flash Jay Garrick)
  • Teen Titans #87 (starring Kid Flash Bart Allen)
  • Time Masters #3 (upcoming issues will feature the Reverse-Flash)

Other Speedsters

Also, Top Cow is selling the Baltimore Comic Con edition of Velocity #1 with a cover by Michael Broussard. I’m a little fuzzy on how “exclusive” these books are, unless they’re selling the excess through retail channels, or the exclusivity has an expiration date.

Out This Week: Flash #5 and Velocity #2

Two long-delayed speedster comics are coming out this week!

The Flash #5

BRIGHTEST DAY continues with a shocking connection to the White Light as Captain Boomerang and the Reverse-Flash experience a bizarre event that ties them together. Meanwhile, it’s the Rogues vs. the Renegades with The Flash caught in the middle!

Written by GEOFF JOHNS
Art and cover by FRANCIS MANAPUL
1:10 White Lantern Variant cover by RYAN SOOK, FERNANDO PASARIN & JOEL GOMEZ

Other DC Speedster Appearances

  • JSA: Black Adam and Isis TPB – Jay Garrick and Liberty Belle both appear in this story.
  • Justice League of America #49 – Jesse Quick has joined the League. (And don’t miss Flash artist Francis Manapul’s variant cover)
  • The World’s Greatest Super-Heroes (Alex Ross/Paul Dini) – Barry Allen appears in the two JLA stories.

Velocity #2 (of 4)

As the members of Cyberforce lay dying from a fatal techno-virus, their only hope for survival is their teammate Velocity. Carin Taylor has never been more in need of her super-speed as the races around the globe, trying to find and cure her teammates before the same virus kills her. The issue continues the inaugural creative union of writer Ron Marz (Witchblade, Angelus) and artist Kenneth Rocafort (Cyberforce/Hunter-Killer).

Notes: I’ve read an advance PDF of Velocity #2, and it’s definitely worth checking out. I should have a review up later tonight. Update: Here’s my review!

CBR has a 5-page preview of the book.

This Week: Jesse, Jay and Bart in JLA and Teen Titans (Plus Outrun, the Blur and Sonic)

There’s no Flash this week, but there are several other comics where you can get a speedster fix:

  • Justice League of America #48 continues the JLA/JSA crossover, and features Jesse Quick and original Flash Jay Garrick.
  • Teen Titans #86 features Kid Flash Bart Allen.
  • Guarding the Globe #1 (Image) features the debut of a new speedster, Outrun.
  • Supreme Power: Contact (TPB Reprint, Marvel) reprints the first six issues of JMS’ Supreme Power, re-launching the characters who would join forces as the Squadron Supreme, including the Blur.
  • Sonic the Hedgehog #216 (Archie), featuring…Sonic the Hedgehog. (Currently the longest-running comic book series about a speedster, by numbering.)

This Week: Flash & Blackhawks Team Up in Brave and the Bold

This week is light on Flash appearances, the main highlight being the hardcover release of Team-Ups of the Brave and the Bold Vol.1, featuring the first seven issues (#27-33) of the J. Michael Straczynski/Jesus Saiz run on the team-up book. This includes the time-traveling Flash/Blackhawks WW2 team-up from last October.

Other team-ups in this collection include Green Lantern and Dr. Fate, the Atom and the Joker, Batman and Dial H for Hero, Batman and Brother Power the Geek, Aquaman and the Demon, and Wonder Woman, Zatanna and Batgirl.

I’m not sure which of these is the actual cover. The one on the left is from DC’s website and the one on the right is from the Amazon listing.

This Week: Flash #1 Second Printing

It’s not listed on DC’s website, but Diamond Comics reports that this week it will ship the The Flash #1 second printing announced last month. Curious readers who missed the start of the relaunch can pick it up, along with those who collect alternate covers — since it’s almost certain to have a different cover than the original printing, even if it’s a banner or frame like the What’s Next? series.

Also this week

The Hourman & Liberty Belle backup feature continues in JSA All-Stars #9.

Fans of the Bronze Age Flash may be interested in the first issue of Cary Bates’ alternate reality story, Superman: The Last Family of Krypton.

As for other speedsters, there’s a new Sonic the Hedgehog issue. At #215, it’s fast-approaching a tie with either Barry Allen’s or Wally West’s series for longevity.
