Let me get this out of the way…I loved this issue of THE FLASH! From the sheer number of Easter Eggs in the opening splash page to the discovery of [REDACTED] at the end, this was a great issue. FLASH WAR is over, and our favorite heroes are picking up the pieces…or at least, they are trying to pick up the pieces. Barry has to try and figure out these new forces that exist alongside the Speed Force. Young Wally has to figure out his place in the world. And older Wally…is in the race of his life! Joshua Williamson has delivered an amazing end to FLASH WAR, with all the elements one needs for an epic conclusion. The battle ends with major consequences for all. Not all the outcomes are good…but some are outstanding! We set the stage for HUGE adventures going forward without diminishing the impact of this arc. FLASH WAR is turning out to have a massive scope – the entire Justice League is out to stop Barry and Wally as they race around the world. The best part of “Flash War” to me is also what makes the REBIRTH era so much fun – we are finally recognizing everything in the rich history of the DCU. Most especially here, we are seeing the best of both Barry’s Silver Age time and Wally’s era as the lead Flash as well. While a lot of fans are picking #TeamBarry or #TeamWally, you really don’t have to pick a side to enjoy THIS ride. Among the comics I never thought I’d have the opportunity to review would be…well, this one! Still, The Flash / Speed Buggy Special was a very pleasant surprise.
