Deluxe Manapul/Buccellato Flash Hardcover Coming in 2016

Flash vol.4 #1 - Francis Manpul and Brian BuccellatoAmazon has a listing for The Flash By Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato Deluxe Edition, a hardcover collection coming out in March 2016.

No word yet on a cover or exact contents, but the Flash #1 cover at left is a likely choice. If it’s a single volume, it’s pretty much guaranteed to include the New 52 Flash #1-25, the first annual, plus the Zero and Reverse Flash issues that fit into their ongoing story. That would include “Move Forward,” “Rogues Revolution,” “Gorilla Warfare” and “Reverse.”

I’d like to think they’ll also include the main story from the second annual, the other two Villain’s Month one-shots (Grodd and Rogues) and the three-part “History Lessons” from Flash #27-29, which Buccellato wrote solo with other artists.

Manapul and Buccellato had the unenviable task of following superstar Geoff Johns and establishing the New 52 version of the Flash, and they succeeded in not only making the book their own, but becoming one of the stand-out creative teams of the relaunch.

Gearing Up For A New Season Of TV

As reported by Cartermatt.com, the CW has released a teaser synopsis for the first episode of The Flash‘s second season.

Following the defeat of Barry Allen’s arch-nemesis Eobard Thawne (aka Reverse Flash), Team Flash quickly turned their attention to the singularity swirling high above Central City, which fans last saw consuming everything in its path. Armed with the heart of a hero and the ability to move at super speeds, Barry charged into the eye of the singularity, but will he actually be able to save his city from impending doom?

The singularity will obviously play into the second season of the show in some way, and it’ll be interesting to find out how. We’ll have to wait until the season debuts on October 6th to find out what’s going to happen.

There are also a few new details about upcoming mid-season spin-off show Legends of Tomorrow. Entertainment Weekly suggests things might not go so smoothly for Captain Cold, Heat Wave, and their colleagues.

“They’re screwups,” Klemmer says. “Instead of tiptoeing through history, they’re plodding through it, leaving their footprints and fingerprints and constantly having to wonder whether they’re going to screw the future up rather than fix it… It’s going to be total madness.”

The link also has a look at some art for the series, which includes the Flash. Maybe he’ll be hanging around more often than we’d thought.

Are you looking forward to Season Two of The Flash? How about Legends of Tomorrow?

This Week: Season Zero, Silver Age Samuroids

Flash Season Zero #10 (print edition): “When an astronaut turned metahuman becomes obsessed with Caitlin Snow, The Flash must protect her from the confused monster wielding a powerful cosmic energy!”

Flash Season Zero Chapter 23 (digital edition) continues the early days of Leonard Snart and Mick Rory, the criminals who would one day become Captain Cold and Heat Wave.

The digital backlist skips ahead a bit to Flash #180-181, a two-parter in which the Flash visits Japan to help an old friend on a case and battles samurai robots.

News Roundup: Comic Writers on Zoom, TV Premiere Title, SDCC Bags & TV Guide Cover

The Flash comic book writers Robert Venditti and Van Jensen talk to Newsarama about the new Zoom, Henry Allen, and Wally West.

A photo of the script cover page reveals the Flash season 2 premiere title, “The Man Who Saved Central City.” Greg Berlanti & Andrew Kreisberg wrote the story with Kreisberg and Gabrielle Stanton writing the script, and it’s being directed by Ralph Hemecker (“The Man in the Yellow Suit” and “Tricksters”).

DC and Warner Bros. have unveiled their giant souvenir bags for SDCC, including one based on the Flash TV show.

Update: TV Guide has unveiled their Comic-Con Special Edition covers featuring Arrow, Gotham, Supergirl, and of course The Flash. (How cool is it that I can say “and of course The Flash” now!)

Speaking of Comic-Con International, I’m sad to say we won’t be able to provide coverage from the convention floor this year, as I was unable to buy tickets in this year’s chaotic sale. (It’ll be weird not going to San Diego this summer.) Rest assured, we’ll be following the convention online and pointing you to Flash-related news and sightings.

Flash Season 2 Premieres October 6

Flash Season 2 Premiere PicThe CW has announced the fall premiere dates for their 2015 TV season. Flash, Arrow and iZombie will all keep the same time slots as last season, with Flash and iZombie premiering on Tuesday October 6, and Arrow premiering on Wednesday, October 7.

No word yet on a launch date for the Arrow/Flash spinoff Legends of Tomorrow, but as a mid-season show, that’s not terribly surprising.

Out of curiosity, who else here watched iZombie? I enjoyed it a lot, even though it’s really different from the comic, and I’m very happy to see it coming back next year.
