Kid Flash to be featured in New Young Justice Cartoon!

Exciting news coming down the pipeline. Announced at Cartoon Network’s Annual Advertising Upfront Presentation and confirmed by DC Comics’ Official Blog, The Source, Cartoon Network and Warner Bros. Animation will be bringing “Young Justice” to the small screen for their 2010 Cartoon Line-Up.

The show is described as:

In Young Justice, being a teenager means proving yourself over and over—to peers, parents, teachers, mentors and, ultimately, to yourself. But what if you’re not just a normal teenager? What if you’re a teenage super hero? Are you ready to join the ranks of the great heroes and prove you’re worthy of the Justice League? That’s exactly what the members of Young Justice—Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Superboy, Miss Martian and Artemis—will found out, whether they have what it takes to be a proven hero. This all-new series is produced by Warner Bros. Animation and based upon characters from DC Comics. Sam Register (Teen Titans, Ben 10, Batman: The Brave and the Bold) is the executive producer. Brandon Vietti (Batman: Under the Red Hood, Superman Doomsday, The Batman) and Greg Weisman (Gargoyles, The Spectacular Spider-Man, W.I.T.C.H.) are the producers.

Not a bad little combination although very little reminds me of the Young Justice that I remember and loved. Not only with the presence of Aqualad but also with him randomly being Afro-Atlantean. I guess from a young african-american kids perspective it’s nice to be able to relate to characters, but you should have just thrown Static in there or something. But on the plus side this hopefully means that we will be seeing tons of different versions of Kid Flash action figures. Which will hopefully make up for never getting a Teen Titans one. Not surprised to see Sam Register on this instead of Bruce Timm, as Register is red hot on the TV animation scene, while Timm’s focus has been on the DC Animated Movie front for some time. I’m definitely hoping they tone down the animation this time around though. Teen Titans was almost obnoxious at times. But I guess it’s apples and oranges.

This is the first promotional picture released.

The design for Kid Flash looks a little busy with the random padding and armor look, but I guess it makes a little sense. The goggles I actually kind of like. They are practical for a speedster and a nice little nod to Impulse, although the red hair makes me think this might be Wally like in the Teen Titans cartoon. They may end up avoiding the secret identity thing completely though. It’s anyone’s guess. I wish they would have kept Bart’s original boots though. They would look great visually, especially with the new pseudo-armor look they have going for him. Robin, Miss Martian and Superboy barely sport any differences from their comic book counterparts. Except for Superboy’s random cargo pants tucked into his boots. Arrowette now known as Artemis (are they trying to go for a dual association with Green Arrow and Wonder Woman maybe?) looks kind of fugly as far as the suit goes. I have no more words for Spike…er Aqualad. Except for “Ugh”.

By the way, did I miss an announcement or something? I was pretty sure that DC wasn’t allowed to use the Superboy name in anything while the legal stuff was being sorted out. For those that have been living under a rock for the past few years, DC Comics was sued by the estate of Jerry Siegel over the rightful ownership of the Superboy character. Honestly I haven’t been following the case that closely myself since I really don’t have that much invested in the character. Especially now. Something obviously must have changed though, with the recent return of Conner to comics and now his inclusion in “Young Justice”

Needless to say I’m anxiously awaiting this series and any announcements as far as action figures go especially. We will keep you posted.

I am optimistically excited about this.

I really dig the Kid Flash outfit actually. Definitely love the goggles, and the armored look makes me think of Bart’s style with the Kid Flash costume with the more armored-looking boots and gloves without actually being the same costume. I wish they had used Bart’s Kid Flash boots though. It would’ve suited the costume better.

With the red hair/green eyes I do wonder it’s Bart or Wally, even though the Robin and Superboy shown would point to Bart.

Yeah I thought the boots would definitely fit the costume and I wish they would have made it into the design. I think the costume you are remembering though is “The Future is Now” Flash (Bart grown up in a alternate universe) costume. It had more of an armor look to it and I really dug that one.If this version were more like that version in adding the armor but losing the random accents(like the red elbows and the holes in the shoulders) I would feel much better about it. These could be revised though and I’m sure it will grow on me anyway.

I mentioned how much I loved the goggles. When designing my own Flash uniform I was originally going to add goggles to it but changed it around at the last minute. I still have the goggles though. A red and a black pair. If this version were more like that version in adding the armor but losing the random accents(like the red elbows and the holes in the shoulders).

Greg Weisman is on board, so I’m incredibly excited. Spectacular Spider-Man was amazing, so this will probably be just as awesome. Hopefully this is Bart, and hopefully he acts like Impulse.

Just finished building my “Young Justice” collection two weeks ago so I am very excited about this! The books I have read so far are just some of the most enjoyable books ever, especially David’s characterization of Impulse and his relationship with his team members. The JLA “World Without Grown-Ups” is a wonderful read as well…

I miss the original Impulse greatly 🙁 We don’t need another “Kid Flash,” we need “Impulse!”

Agreed. Although I never had the problem with Kid Flash like a lot of other fans did. I just wish they got more use out of him before fast tracking him to Flash and killing him. But I digress.

Impulse would have been an awesome design to build off of. Much better fit than Kid Flash honestly. All the lines and the great use of white, red and gold. Plus he already has the goggles, the buckles and the fingerless gloves so he doesn’t need any more modifications.

      I’m happy either way honestly.

Come on, DC…is it that difficult to give us an animated Impulse?!

Wasn’t the Teen Titans cartoon supposed to be a YJ cartoon initially? I heard merchandising got in the way of that.

While I really, really, really wish they had gone with Impulse as originally leaked/reported last month, I can understand why they went with Kid Flash instead.

That said, I do hope the eyes and hair are misleading and that this is Bart and not Wally. I wouldn’t mind as well if they went with the no-real-names thing the Teen Titans cartoon did, but just give us a bone! Sad that Bart always gets shoehorned into the Wally mold.

With Greg Weisman on board, I’m very interested though. I can’t wait to hear more!

I’m a little PO’ed on the KF/Impluse thing. Sure bart becomes him later when the YJ transfers to the new teen titans, but that’s later…MUCH later. TT included the 3rd Generation of heros, Dick, Wally, Roy. YJ included the 4th, Tim, Bart, Kon-El. To mix it up would distroy character devolpement. Wally and Bart, though related, are completely differant. Wally was more of a jokster and though not good at it, ladies man. Bart was….nieve..yes and well, freaking implusive. he’s a wally/garth/beatboy hybrid on acid. When he becomes KF, it transforms his character. His grown, though not alot but he’s grown. wally, though childish, does not need that same devolpment.
Oh and P.S. I’m tired of hearing this so let’s make something clear, TT the cartoon has nothing to do with the JLA/JLU cartoon. If you were to keep with their AU story line then you’d see why. JL was founded w/ wally in the cartoon. he’s at the most 24. in TT wally was KF. he was at most 15. in the comicbook. the JL founding flash was barry allen, and his spot would later go to wally so until then the crossover was possible. only YJ which would later become the new TT has the possiblity of logically crossing over w/ the JLA/JLU cartoon. that and static(duh).

….okay. sorry i had to say that. i was getting irratated.
    ^^
P.S.S. though i’m not a reader of YJ, i know their funny but i actually hope for this to be a little more serious then the TT cartoon even though the comic TT were the more serious then the comic YJ. okay, i’m confusing myself and maybe you too so i’ll stop.

I think we are all fully aware that TT had almost no relation to JL/JLU besides the fact that Michael Rosenbaum voiced Wally on JLU and TT.

As far as character development being messed up I really don’t think it matters since as you pointed out each series has their own continuity.

Also lets remember that comic book geeks like you and myself are not the primary audience they are trying to reach. The average kid could care less about what came first or who is who.

I sort of doubt that anyone is reading this anymore but I will put in my opinion anyway.
I did not grow up with young justice and I got into the teen titans comics thought the TT cartoon and I only started reading the TP of the 2003 run last year but I enjoyed them. My small exposure to the YJ comic would have effected how I feel about this.

My friend and I where disguising the fact that they may have made the Young Justice line up similar to the Teen Titans one so that people can easily get into the comics if they so wish. A marketing tool so to say.
Bart being kid flash, and looking like wally may have something to do with this. It also may have been used to connect him to the Flash. If they look similar people can connect them.

His eye colour may be green as the tv screens can not handle how awesome his Gold eyes look.
It’s a reasonable thing, cause those eyes are just so awesome.

Despite any disappointment I might feel about Bart’s hair and eyes or Aquaman being black I am very G’ed for this.
I have learnt the hard way to stop hating and love my fandoms.
