September’s variant cover theme at DC Comics is Green Lantern’s 75th Anniversary. IGN has the full gallery, including this cover for The Flash #44 by Wes Craig.

Two things come to mind as I look through the gallery:

1. While Hal Jordan is the most frequently-appearing GL in this set, he’s not the only one. John Stewart appears on this cover, the Batman Beyond Green Lantern appears on that series’ cover, etc. There are even a few with Alan Scott, the Green Lantern who’s actually been around 75 years, including a great Detective Comics cover by Cliff Chiang featuring Golden-Age Green Lantern and Batman.

2. These appear to be normally-numbered issues of the various series. Apparently post-New 52 DC is done with their yearly September special events like the zero issues, villain’s month, and Future’s End tie-ins. Considering we just got through with a two-month hiatus for everything, that’s probably a good idea.

TVLine has new information about some upcoming casting for The Flash show. Yesterday they reported about the casting call for ‘Wendy’, and today they announced a casting call for ‘John Clark’.

Arrow is seeking an Iris West type… No, just kidding. (Too soon?) The Flash, however – in addition to Wendy – is casting the season-long role of a classically handsome, square-jawed hero in his 30s to early 40s, a slightly cynical man “with an edge.” The casting call lists the character as “John Clark,” which is obviously fake/a nod to the DC Comics letterer. Though I must wonder if one of Clark’s works hints at the character being introduced…

Some people are already speculating that this may be Jay Garrick, and I think that’s distinctly possible. With the cameo of Jay’s helmet in the season finale, he’s an obvious inclusion for the series (he’s not a character I’d like to see appear “with an edge”, but there could be a good reason for it). Or maybe it’s someone else entirely, of course.

IGN spoke with Wentworth Miller (Captain Cold) and Dominic Purcell (Heat Wave) about their roles in the upcoming show Legends of Tomorrow. The thirteen-episode series will feature them alongside heroes like White Canary (Caity Lotz), the Atom (Brandon Routh) and others, and they’re obviously different from the more more conventional heroes. In this interview, the duo speak about their characters and potential role in the series.

Flash Seeks New Love Interest for Season 2

According to TV Line, The Flash is casting a cop named Wendy for season two.

TVLine has learned that for Season 2, the CW hit is casting the major recurring role of Wendy, a “spunky, fun and funny” romantic interest for one Barry Allen.

A cop for the Central City PD, Wendy is described as bright and scientific-minded — more specifically, “Think ‘Felicity Smoak’ from Arrow,” the casting call reads.

Wendy doesn’t have a direct source in the comics. Barry’s love life is pretty simple, as he’s solidly with Iris West when he first appears in the Silver Age, and solidly with fellow CSI Patty Spivot in the New 52. There’s his childhood crush Daphne Dean, now a famous actress, and there’s Fiona Webb, whom he started dating and nearly married after Iris’ death.

Waitaminute….anyone want to bet Wendy has a brother named Marvin?

Flash in Convergence Collections

The Beat has the details on DC’s Convergence Collected Editions. The full event will be collected in a whopping nine volumes this October, one collecting the main series and two for each group of tie-ins:

  • Convergence (hardcover, featuring the main series)
  • Convergence: Flashpoint volumes 1 and 2
  • Convergence: Zero Hour volumes 1 and 2
  • Convergence: Crisis volumes 1 and 2
  • Convergence: Infinite Earths volumes 1 and 2

Convergence: The Flash (featuring 1980s Barry Allen) will be included in Convergence: Crisis Book Two. Convergence: Speed Force (featuring 2000s Wally West and family) will be included in Convergence: Flashpoint Book Two.

This Week’s Digital Backissues: Flash Annual #10 & Flash #159-160

DC has added one more Wally West annual and two more Barry Allen issues to their digital backlist this week.

Flash Annual #10 (1997): Part of the “Pulp Heroes” theme, in this case focusing on romance. Wally West is consulting on a movie being made about the Flash, and the actress playing “Lindy” Park has a more than healthy interest in him. And then there’s Rainbow Raider… Plus a backup story, “Sound and Fury” starring Pied Piper.

Flash #159 (1966)- “The Flash’s Final Fling” – has the scarlet speedster hung up his boots for good?

Flash #160 (1966) 80-Page giant featuring reprints of classic Silver Age stories, plus the Golden-Age “Duet of Danger” featurng the first appearance of the Fiddler.

Is Every Door Really Open After Convergence?

A few months ago, Dan Didio said that “we’re leaving every door open” after Convergence. It’s easy to read that as suggesting that all those old versions of the characters are now officially out there somewhere in the multiverse….

…except they aren’t. Not according to Convergence #8 anyway.
