This Week: Crazy for You, Felicity in Print, Classic Piper and Reverse Flash

The Flash TV episode “Crazy for You” airs tonight. Based on the synopsis, this is going to be a complicated episode, with Barry meeting Linda, the team going after Peek-a-Boo, Henry Allen getting into trouble in prison, and Cisco following up on Piper’s offer to track down Ronnie.

The CW has released a clip from next week’s episode of The Flash, which features Barry getting to know a potential love interest. The episode is titled “Crazy For You”, and airs February 3rd.

You can also see a one-page comic preview for the episode at The CW’s official Tumblr site, and it features the escape of someone we met in the last episode.

In other news, Comicbook.com is reporting that actor Vito D’Ambrosio has been cast to reprise his role as Tony Bellows in the current Flash series. Bellows was a police officer in the 1990s Flash series, but will be the mayor of Central City in the modern show.

DC Entertainment Announces Two Animated Projects Featuring The Flash

Variety reported yesterday that DC Entertainment working with Mattel, Fisher Price and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will release two direct-to-homevideo animated projects featuring different versions of The Flash.

The first, Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts is based on the Mattel Batman Unlimited toy line:

“Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts” will debut May 12, as a direct-to-homevideo animated movie that features Batman, the Flash, Red Robin, Nightwing and Green Arrow as they face off against super villain the Penguin, while introducing cyber animals as new foes. A sequel film will be released around the second half of 2015.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will release the “Batman Unlimited” films on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD. In addition, WB will also produce 22 two-minute shorts around the “Batman Unlimited” toys, making them available for free on a variety of digital platforms, while a companion app also will provide young fans with access to content.

Mattel produces the Batman Unlimited action figures which are rolling out onto store shelves now, and feature a new look for the Caped Crusader.

Flash vs. the Measles: The Show Must Go On!

As someone who grew up after the measles vaccine, I tended to think of it as not a big deal, just one of those childhood diseases that previous generations had to deal with. So back in the mid-2000s when I was tracking down every Golden Age Flash story I could find, I was surprised to see that Flash Comics #39 treated it as serious business (which, of course, it is).

In “Play of the Year” (March 1943), a theater producer sabotages a rival’s production by faking a measles outbreak among the cast. The boarding house where they’re all staying is immediately quarantined.

Of course, this is a Jay Garrick Flash story, so there’s a madcap solution: the Flash will perform every part in the play at once! (This was a recurring motif in the series, including stories where he played every position on a baseball team and replaced an entire hockey team.) Continue reading →
