DCTV Fall 2016 Premiere Dates

The CW has announced their premiere dates for Fall 2016, including their four DC superhero TV shows. Rather than launching them all the same week, they’re splitting them across two.

Tuesday. October 4:

The Flash season three premiere

Wednesday, October 5:

Arrow season five premiere

Monday, October 10:

Supergirl season two premiere

Thursday, October 13:

Legends of Tomorrow season two premiere

All four shows run from 8:00-9:00pm.

Seeing them all on the schedule as a regular block of programming really brings home the size of the TV universe that DC has been building. Even if Supergirl stays a separate universe (though fans have speculated that Barry’s time travel antics could result in merging the realities after the inevitable Flashpoint-inspired story arc), it’s connected to the other shows in tone, producers, and of course the fact that it’s already crossed over with The Flash. That four-way mega-crossover they’re planning seems a bit more real now!

TV Flash vs TV Flash in the Xum 52

Flash TV JWS Xum

This week’s The Line it is Drawn is all about TV superheroes meeting. The entry by Xum Yukinori features a Flash (1990)/Flash (2014) mashup with the John Wesley Shipp incarnations of Barry Allen and Jay Garrick in an homage to the classic Infantino/Anderson cover for Flash #137, “Vengeance of the Immortal Villain.”

Flash Season 2 DVD/Blu-Ray Details

Flash Season 2 Blu-Ray

Season 2 of the Flash TV series will be available on DVD and Blu-Ray on September 6, 2016. Flash TV News has the full details. Key points:

  • All 23 episodes plus both halves of this year’s Flash/Arrow crossover, “Legends of Yesterday” and “Legends of Today.”
  • Gag reel
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Panels from Payleyfest and Comic-Con International
  • Behind-the-scenes features for visual effects, the Hawks, Zoom, and Kevin Smith

Standard price is $49.99 for the DVD and $54.97 (really?) for the Blu-Ray. You can pre-order at Amazon.

No word on a Netflix release yet. A few months ago there was talk that this season of the CW might not make it to Netflix due to the expiration of their contract and Time Warner’s intent to create their own subscription service, but I haven’t found any updates on that front. (The show is already available on pay-per-episode/season services like Amazon Video, iTunes and Google Play.)

Are you planning to buy the discs, or have you moved on from physical media to digital download/streaming?

Flash TV Tidbits

As we prepare for the season finale this Tuesday, there are a few bits of Flash news here and there. Firstly, some promotional material from the finale, in the form of the official one-page comic and some official episode stills.

And the CW has released a general promo video for their various DC superhero shows (Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl), which isn’t particularly spoilery.

Finally, ComicBook.com spoke to Grant Gustin about Season 3 of The Flash, in which Gustin says Barry won’t lose his optimism despite all the tribulations he’s recently endured. Please be advised that the article contains major spoilers for last week’s episode of the series.

Looking forward to the finale this week? Or are you already thinking ahead to Season 3? What do you hope to see in both?

Four-Way CW Crossover Coming in December

The CW has announced a mega-crossover between The Flash, Arrow, Legends Of Tomorrow, and Supergirl in December. There are no details about the story or schedule yet (it’s obviously a long way away), but it should be fun and will expand the CW’s DC universe. It’d be nice if they could bring back John Constantine again too, although that might be a little trickier given its cancellation and rights belonging to a different network.

Newsarama reports that the CW will be airing Supergirl in the Monday 8-9 PM timeslot, so fortunately nothing changes schedule-wise for that show.

Are you intrigued by the crossover? What would you like to see in it?
