Flash TV Quick Hits: Clancy Brown and the Clock King

Two Flash TV series updates:

Clancy Brown will play General Wade Eiling in a recurring role. “The General” will appear first in episode 5 as the leader of a black-ops team pursuing Plastique. Eiling comes out of the Captain Atom corner of the DCU and has been an ally/enemy of the Justice League and Suicide Squad as his own motivations coincide with and diverge from their agendas.

You may recall Clancy Brown’s voice as Lex Luthor in the DC Animated Universe Superman and Justice League cartoons.

The Clock King returns in Episode 7, played as in Arrow by Robert Knepper. I seem to recall that Episode 8 was to be the actual crossover between the two series, but I could be misremembering or they might be changing plans.

TVLine reports that Girder will be introduced in episode six of the Flash TV series. The casting call notes that he was a former bully of Barry in childhood, and can “transmute any part of his body into solid steel”. So he’ll obviously be a bit different from the character in the comics, but is keeping some of the basic elements. He has not been cast yet.

Firestorm Fan reports that Kelly Frye has been cast as Plastique. She’ll apparently debut in the fifth episode, and will also be a metahuman due to the same accident which gave Barry his powers. Frye has appeared in such dramas as The Mentalist and NCIS: Los Angeles.

Geoff Johns gave a fairly lengthy interview to CBR about the Flash TV series and some of DC’s other television properties. (There are a few spoilers for the pilot episode referenced in the interview.) Johns talks about the Rogues and other villains they might be using, and discusses later plot points which are seeded in the pilot. And there’s a fair bit about other TV series, if you’re interested in that.

CBR also interviewed executive producers Andrew Kreisberg and Greg Berlanti about the tone of the series, and synchronicity with shows like Arrow.

DC TV Panel At SDCC

It’s pretty late here on the east coast, and CBR and Newsarama seem to have ended their news coverage before the start of this panel. All reporting comes from the Twitter account @KSiteTV and their sister site, @FlashTVNews.

The Flash pilot officially aired for the first time tonight at SDCC. However, it’s an open secret that the pilot leaked onto the Internet about a month ago, and that’s why there have been so many spoilers flying around. The information repeated here does contain spoilers for the pilot (and beyond), so be warned.

Speed Reading About the Flash TV Series

As of yet there’s hasn’t been much in the way of Flash news out of San Diego Comic-Con. And yet there’s been plenty of new stuff out there recently, mostly regarding the upcoming Flash TV series. The biggest news is at the end, because it’ll be behind a cut for spoilers.

CBR has an interview with Grant Gustin about the costume, some villains, and reading DC Comics for research. There is a major spoiler for the pilot episode contained in this interview.

Video interview with Jesse L. Martin (Joe West) at Access Hollywood about being Barry’s father figure and other aspects of the series.

Plastique is being added to the cast. She joins the list of Firestorm characters who will appear in the series.

Newsarama reports that

On alternating Mondays starting in September, The Flash: Season Zero and Arrow: Season 2.5 will hit digitally. Season Zero is written by Andrew Kreisberg and the FlashTV writers are writing, with art by Phil Hester, Eric Gapstur, and Kelsey Shannon. The series will take place between the pilot and the second episode of the show.

The biggest news is behind a cut. There are spoilers about characters who will appear.

Captain Cold Cast and Other Flash TV News Round-Up

TV Line reports that Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) has been cast as Leonard Snart, aka Captain Cold, and will appear in Episode 4. Additionally, Ronnie Raymond (Firestorm) will be joined by Martin Stein at some point.

Barry’s suit was also a point of contention, as it’s not quite as vibrant as in the comics. Berlanti noted that designer Colleen Atwood went through a series of different looks and that the team will be “evolving the suit over time. … It will become more vibrant and red” as the series progresses.

Several episode titles have been revealed:
Episode 2: The Fastest Man Alive
Episode 3: Things You Can’t Outrun
Episode 4: Going Rogue (update)

William Sadler (Iron Man 3) will play Simon Stagg in Episode 2, suggesting a possible Metamorpho appearance down the line.

Update: TV Guide confirms an Arrow crossover, with Episode 8 of each show forming a two-parter, and THR reports Geoff Johns saying that Arrow/Flash and DC’s movies “are separate worlds.”

Update: Arrow’s Felicity Smoak will guest-star in “Going Rogue” Flash TV News has also rounded up the publicity stills released so far.
