Flash #29 Preview

DC has released a five-page preview for next week’s issue of the Flash, which is Flash #29. You can see them at We Got This Covered, although admittedly they’re rather difficult to read at the site (I had to save all the pages and read them offline). In the preview, an injured Barry reflects on what went wrong during his fight with Shrapnel.

Comics News Round-Up

Bleeding Cool has posted some upcoming covers from September, including one for Flash (by Howard Porter) and Titans #15 (Dan Mora). You can see the Flash-related images embedded in this post, and the full group of DC covers are here. The Titans cover is at the end of this post.

Flash writer Joshua Williamson was at Boston Comic Con last weekend, and he talked a bit about upcoming aspects of the Flashverse in general, as well as details about Dark Nights: Metal. Flash fans may find the upcoming tidbits interesting, particularly if they’re fans of Bart Allen:

Discussing The Flash, Williamson brought up Barry’s new negative speed force powers.

“Barry’s a guy who’s always been about the science,” said Williamson. “Now, he’s forced to sort of re-learn everything. In the past, he’d have that lightning coming off of him and it wouldn’t do anything, but now you see it’s destroying the street. And now, a big part of this [upcoming] arc is that he can’t heal anymore. He used to use the speed force to heal, and he became very reliant on his powers to help him with this, and now he can’t do it anymore.”

A fan then asked if there were plans to bring Bart Allen or Conner Kent back.

“We all love those characters,” said Williamson. “I was a big fan of Young Justice, so we do think about those characters all the time. I don’t know if that helps you or not.”

Plus there was a panel about Dark Nights: Metal, and Williamson spoke a bit about Red Death, who will be facing the Flash in October.

That’s a rather non-committal answer about Bart, but hopefully this means he’s on DC’s radar. It’s something to continue asking them for, at least.

Flash #28 Preview

DC released the official five-page preview for this week’s Flash issue yesterday, and you can see the entire thing at CBR. It features a quick glimpse of Captain Cold up to no good with Shrapnel, and Barry learning to cope with his new Negative-Flash powers…which aren’t exactly going well for him.

Flash #28 will be in stores this Wednesday!

First Look At Dark Nights: Metal Covers

We’ve already seen these Dark Nights: Metal solicitations for September, but DC had only released placeholder images to go with them. So Bleeding Cool recently posted two Flash-related covers to go along with the solicits, which you can see here. They’re both drawn by artist Jason Fabok, and the issues will be out in late September.

This isn’t our first look at the speedster called Red Death, who also appears on the Flash #33 cover in October. But perhaps this issue will introduce him so we’ll know something about him by the time he fights Barry the following month.

Flash #29 Cover And More

Bleeding Cool posted some DC covers for August, and among them is the primary cover for Flash #29. It shows Barry fighting Shrapnel, who’s mentioned in the solicitation for that issue.

And while we’re here, CBR did an interview with Flash writer Joshua Williamson about his most recent story arc on the book, and specifically about how he sees Eobard Thawne. There he offers some insight into Thawne’s troubled psychology and the development of the story. Check it out, you may find it interesting.

Plus, here’s a look at Barry’s daughter Nora Allen in Justice League #26, courtesy of Comicosity. The two Green Lantern kids are described as having the Allen surname as well, so it’ll be interesting to see what their deal is and how they may be related to Barry. This will presumably be another alternate future, since we were just treated to a glimpse of the potential future Dawn and Don Allen in the Flash series; perhaps history will be changed so Nora and these other kids are never born. We will have to see.
