After the jump we will have a major SPOILER to discuss regarding Wally West in FLASH #30 – do not go forward unless you’ve read the latest issue (or unless you don’t mind being spoiled)…
SPOILER AHEAD – YOU’VE BEEN WARNED
After the events of FOREVER EVIL, Central City is a mess…in just about every way you can measure. The reconstruction work has begun, and everyone is dealing with the consequences of the vicious attack on the Gem Cities by the Crime Syndicate. Barry is feeling a particular level of guilt…after all, he IS the Fastest Man Alive. The themes of devastation, recovery, regret, and lost time run strongly through this excellent debut from the new FLASH team of Robert Venditti, Van Jensen, Brett Booth and Norm Rapmund. Oh, and did I mention….Wally?
LIGHT SPOILERS ONLY
This issue of EARTH 2 has a theme of resurrection – in more ways that one. A hero returns, another learns his way, and the “resurrected hope” may have the key to any chance our Wonders have of survival!
LIGHT SPOILERS ONLY
The returning hero is revealed in the first pages…Alan Scott is once again saved (or this time, resurrected) by the green flame. His teammates are unaware of this so far, as events elsewhere are ready to unfold quickly. Young Jimmy Olsen of Earth 2 (only 13 years old on this Earth) is starting to figure out some of the meanings of Doctor Fates ramblings…including the identity of the person identied as the “resurrected hope”…and no, it isn’t Alan Scott. As the Kryptonian starts to gain power, the group is attacked – and that sets up the twist at the end that may finally turn this battle around…but for that we’ll have to wait until next issue.
Tom Taylor is an excellent storyteller, and this issue is no exception. There are a number of events going on simultaneously, but it doesn’t look forced – everything is blending well into the main plot. The art as always is outstanding – I love Nicola Scott’s pencils, Trevor Scott’s inks and Pete Pantazis’ color work. Jay Garrick fans will need to wait just a bit longer to see him in this story…but fans of these Wonders should be happy with another great issue of EARTH 2.
It has finally come to this…the trial of Kid Flash, and now Solstice is complete and they are preparing for transport to the prison planet. It’s a time of goodbyes, of thinking about what might have been and what might yet be…
LIGHT SPOILERS ONLY
We start issue #29 with Solstice’s story, and why she cares so much for Kid Flash. There are some sad goodbyes here, as Tim Drake not only says goodbye to Bart and Kiran but to his vision of the Titans. His words for Bart are a bit surprising, but what he does after saying goodbye to them is an even bigger surprise…won’t spoil it here, though. In the end, the remaining Titans make their way back to their own time, and what they find leads us into the upcoming final battle with Harvest so hold on to your hats!
Scott Lobdell has written another excellent script for this series. I’ve said it before but it bears repeating – your opinion of this story and this series will depend in no small part on whether you can take this New 52 Titans group at face value. If you are looking for the pre-FLASHPOINT Bart, he isn’t here. But, if you are looking for a well-crafted tale this is definitely worth the read. The artwork is exceptional – Scott McDaniel handles the breakdowns, with Tyler Kirkham taking the artwork from there and Arif Prianto on colors. There is a bittersweet quality to much of this issue, with some interesting twists as well. There is just one more issue left in the series…that’s a sad note as well, but I am looking forward to the big battle with Harvest next issue.
The last issue of FOREVER EVIL: ROGUES REBELLION gives you the very best of the Rogues, in an outstanding story that will definitely leave you wanting more! Though I’m sad to see this excellent mini-series end, at least this tale ends on a spectacular high note with issue #6. Let’s get to the review:
LIGHT SPOILERS ONLY
We finally come down to one last secret to be revealed as Brian Buccellato bids a fond farewell to The Flash and heads off into the Gotham sunset.
