New Flash Action Figure Announced

TheFlash.CW_Flash_53bf387dad5997.18043970

DC Collectibles has given us a sneak peek at the action figures and statues to be showcased at San Diego Comic-Con in a couple of weeks, and one of them is a figure of Barry Allen from the upcoming Flash TV series. So far it looks nicely poseable and is a great likeness of actor Grant Gustin in the Flash suit, which bodes well.

There are no other details as of yet, but you can see the rest of the imminent figures at DC’s blog, and some of them look really nice. Presumably we’ll learn more about the figures once SDCC is underway. And if you’ll be attending SDCC, the blog post has information about when and where the collectibles panels will be held.

What do you think of the figure so far? Is anyone hoping for more figures based on the TV series?

Half of Firestorm Joins Flash TV Cast

Robbie AmellMore Flash TV news: The Flash is adding a new supporting character who will look familiar to readers of the comic books: Ronnie Raymond, better known as one of the two people who combine to form Firestorm: The Nuclear Man.

According to DC’s website, he’ll be “a maintenance worker at S.T.A.R. Labs and Dr. Caitlin Snow’s fiancĂ©, and he plays an integral part in the particle accelerator accident that transforms Barry Allen into the Flash.”

Considering that Killer Frost/Caitin Snow comes out of the Firestorm corner of the DCU, linking the characters makes sense.

Raymond will be played by Robbie Amell, most recently seen on The Tomorrow People. (And yes, he’s related to Arrow star Stephen Amell – he’s his cousin.)

Flash and Firestorm may not seem like an obvious combination, though they have of course worked together in the Justice League and in various universe-spanning events…but back in the 1980s, Firestorm appeared in a series of backup stories in the pages of The Flash, making his appearance here even more appropriate!

Flash “Season Zero” Digital-First Comic Launches in September

Flash Season 0 Issue 1

TV Guide broke the news that, as we predicted, DC is launching new digital-first Flash and Arrow tie-in comics this fall. Flash: Season Zero will take place between the pilot and second episode, and will “embrace the franchise’s colorful roots” a bit more than the more “grounded” TV show with its own set of comic-specific villains.

Season Zero, which is being co-written by Brooke Eikmeier and Katherine Walczak and features art by Phil Hester and Eric Gapstur, will showcase the entire TV cast, plus these new rogues, a group of circus performers who gained super powers as a result of the S.T.A.R. Labs particle accelerator explosion that also transformed Barry (as seen in the Arrow episode “Three Ghosts,” as well as The Flash’s pilot). This “freakshow gallery,” as Kreisberg calls them, are lead by Mr. Bliss, a character who first appeared in DC’s Starman comic series: “He has the ability to manipulate peoples’ emotions. He and his cadre of circus folk have decided that they’ve been pushed around long enough and are going to take it to society.”

Digital chapters will be released on Mondays, with Flash and Arrow alternating each week. The first digital chapter of Flash: Season Zero will be available on September 8, with the first print edition hitting the shelves a month later on October 8, the day after the TV series premiere.

So, will you be picking this up digitally or in print? Or both? Or just sticking with the TV show for now?

Via Flash TV News. Also, I’m pretty sure the covers from TV Guide’s article are mock-ups, since they’re using existing publicity photos. Edit: Maybe not. I’ve pulled the full-sized images from DC’s blog, and updated with the Flash cover above.

Flash TV Pilot to Screen at Comic-Con

On Saturday, July 26, Warner Bros. will have a massive 3-hour event at Comic-Con International featuring the screenings of both the Gotham and Flash pilot episodes, scenes from Constantine, and cast/crew appearances.

Sadly, this means I won’t be able to attend the event, as I don’t have Saturday tickets. On the plus side, I also don’t have to worry about spending 4 hours waiting in line and getting shut out, so that’s 7 more hours of convention I can actually go to. Now that I think about it, I might be getting a better deal.

Flash TV Quick Hits

  1. The US debut for the first episode of the Flash TV Series is set for October 7. To help get you up to speed (so to speak), CW will be airing the two-part “Arrow” episode introducing Barry Allen the previous week. They also plan encore showings of the first two episodes.
  2. Rumor has it that CW will be screening the pilot at Comic-Con International next month in San Diego. I’ll try to make it to the presentation if it’s on one of the days I’m attending.
  3. The pilot has apparently leaked online. No, I haven’t watched it.

Three Flash TV Spots: Impossible Man, STAR Labs Team and Friend Zoned

You’ve probably seen these by now (I’ve been a bit too busy to post much lately), but in case you haven’t, here are some promotional videos for the upcoming Flash TV show. The first two feature Barry Allen and the STAR Labs scientists who become his support team.
