Knowing he cannot defeat this new foe alone, The Flash will need the help of his former enemies, the Rogues, if he wants to keep himself and Central City alive. First Look at Forever Evil: Rogues Rebellion

MTV Geek has the cover and solicitation for the first issue of Forever Evil: Rogues Rebellion, one of three tie-in miniseries to DC Comics’ first big New 52 event crossover. The book follows one month after the three Villains Month Flash one-shots. MTV also interviews Brian Buccellato about the book.

The Rogues call no man boss, but a new evil threat might not leave them much choice! Will they fall in line, or refuse and risk certain death? The answer will tear the Rogues apart!

A few key bits from MTV’s interview with Brian Buccellato:

“Rogues Rebellion” is a stand-alone story that takes place after Flash #24. It ties into Forever Evil, but the two miniseries can be read independently. “Poor Flash is sitting this one out — probably for his own good.”

It focuses on “Captain Cold, Mirror master, Heatwave, Weather Wizard, and the Trickster. Glider and Turbine will also play a major role, but those first five guys are front and center.”

As far as the future of Brian Buccellato’s take on the Rogues? “I have a bazillion plans for them. Heck, I wanna do my own Rogues ongoing series! But I’m not sure that anyone at DC is buying into (or even knows) about my evil plans!”

Head over to MTV Geek for the whole interview, plus interviews with Matt Kindt on Forever Evil: A.R.G.U.S. and Peter J. Tomasi on Forever Evil: Arkham War.

Black Flash in Ame-Comi Girls & Smallville Haunted TPB

Two items from DC Comics’ September solicitations, both from their digital-first line:

AME-COMI GIRLS #7
Written by JUSTIN GRAY and JIMMY PALMIOTTI
Art by HORACIO DOMINGUES, EDUARDO FRANCISCO and RUBEN GONZALEZ
Cover by EDUARDO FRANCISCO
On sale SEPTEMBER 4 • 40 pg, FC, $3.99 US • RATED T • DIGITAL FIRST

Meet the Hellions—a team of misfit Ame-Comi Girls out to have fun and save the world. It’s not easy for Black Flash being the only undead, crime-fighting teenager in school. But when she meets Red Raven and her badass besties, she may have finally found a place to fit in.

The Black Flash statue was originally a repaint of the Jesse Quick-as-the-Flash statue. I find it interesting that the Ame-Comi comics have expanded to include the repaint characters. Presumably the chapters featuring her will appear digitally in August. Does anyone know if Jesse Quick/The Flash has had a spotlight story in this series?

In these stories from issues #9-12, mysterious speed storms have struck across the globe, and a familiar face returns to help Clark to stop them. Then, Lex moves against Tess to reveal what she knows about The Man of Steel, and the secrets of Earth-Two Chloe are revealed!

This collects the full story that quest-starred Bart Allen as Impulse and Jay Garrick as the Flash of the Justice Society in the Smallville universe.

The Rogues have their rules and their ways of doing business—so what do they think of the Secret Society’s claims that the Justice League is dead, and that the world’s villains need to unite? It’s a culture clash that won’t end quietly!

Won’t end quietly? That’s for sure! In October, the Rogues move into their own five-issue miniseries by the same creative team, Forever Evil: Rogues. Continue reading

Grodd #1 for Villains Month & Forever Evil: Rogues Mini

Flash #23.1 / Grodd #1 (still)

DC Comics has officially announced the long-rumored Villains month for the second anniversary of the New 52, and the launch of the seven-part Forever Evil event miniseries by Geoff Johns and David Finch.

For Villains Month, each ongoing series will be taken over by a villain for September.

Flash #23.1 has become Grodd #1, which appears to drop in the middle of the 6-part “Reversed.” The covers will be lenticular 3D. It’s a big file, so instead of pasting it in, I’m linking to the animated GIF of the Grodd cover.

Additionally, three five-issue miniseries will launch in October, including one that will be of interest to fans of the Scarlet Speedster:

Forever Evil: Rogues. Writer Brian Buccellato (The Flash) and Patrick Zircher (Suicide Squad) put the spotlight on the Flash’s colorful and infamous gang of Rogues, led by Captain Cold — a particular favorite of Johns, the former Flash writer, as well as Finch. “I just love his mask,” the artist says. “He looks very steely and a little bit dead in the eye, which is very evil.”

Update: Two more one-shots have been announced: Reverse Flash & The Rogues.
