UPDATED: Your Most-Anticipated Flash Comic for Villains Month!

Flash comics for Villains Month

DC Comics will be releasing three Flash villain comics in September: Grodd, Reverse Flash, and The Rogues. Which sounds most appealing to you?

Villains Month poll results pie chart: Reverse Flash, Rogues, Grodd.

Update: The results are in!

Reverse Flash is the clear winner with 46% of the vote. The Rogues is a close second, with 42%. Grodd, however, received only four votes of the 158 votes cast! More people than that (16, at 10%) want to just skip Villains Month entirely!

How about you? Which book are you most looking forward to, and why?

Francis Manapul & Marcus To Nominated for 2013 Shuster Awards

The 2013 Joe Shuster Award nominations for Canadian comics creators are out, and two Flash artists are on the list!

Francis Manapul has been nominated for the Cartoonist / Auteur category, for creators who write and illustrate their own work. This is his fourth year in a row being nominated for the awards, having been nominated for Artist once and Cover Artist twice. In 2011, he won the Cover Comic Book Artist category. Moving into the author category puts him in competition against such heavy hitters as Darwyn Cooke and Jeff Lemire.

Marcus To (Flash #10, 15) has been nominated for the Artist / Dessinateur category, for creators who illustrate others’ stories. This is his first time being nominated.

Congratulations to both on their nominations!

This Week’s Digital Flashbacks: Chain Lightning Part 4 & Impulse

Flash #148 (Chain Lightning Part 4)

The Flash doesn’t star in any new comics this week, but ComiXology has added two new backissues to their digital library:

Flash #148: “Chain Lightning” Part 4 – More and more future speedsters join the fight as today’s Flashes travel through the next thousand years to battle Cobalt Blue. But one Flash remains: does Wally West dare risk contacting Barry Allen?

Impulse #72: Forces unknown kidnap Carol, and Max Mercury battles an enemy from a former lifetime. Major changes are afoot in this lead-in to “Dark Tomorrow.”

Into the Fire Pits With Captain Steel! (Review of Earth 2 #13)

IMG_0428This issue of Earth 2 reveals more about the first “new wonder” of the World Army…and it isn’t who you think.  Nope, not Atom…but Captain Steel!  This New 52 Captain Steel has an excellent and tragic origin story, one that gives him the opportunity to truly shine.  You won’t see Jay this issue, nor will you follow-up on the cliffhanger from the Annual with Scott and Barda…but it is a story well worth reading, and it expands the wonderful new Earth 2 that James Robinson has imagined for his fans.

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD! PLEASE READ THE ISSUE BEFORE GOING FURTHER!

Won’t end quietly? That’s for sure! In October, the Rogues move into their own five-issue miniseries by the same creative team, Forever Evil: Rogues. Continue reading

Grodd #1 for Villains Month & Forever Evil: Rogues Mini

Flash #23.1 / Grodd #1 (still)

DC Comics has officially announced the long-rumored Villains month for the second anniversary of the New 52, and the launch of the seven-part Forever Evil event miniseries by Geoff Johns and David Finch.

For Villains Month, each ongoing series will be taken over by a villain for September.

Flash #23.1 has become Grodd #1, which appears to drop in the middle of the 6-part “Reversed.” The covers will be lenticular 3D. It’s a big file, so instead of pasting it in, I’m linking to the animated GIF of the Grodd cover.

Additionally, three five-issue miniseries will launch in October, including one that will be of interest to fans of the Scarlet Speedster:

Forever Evil: Rogues. Writer Brian Buccellato (The Flash) and Patrick Zircher (Suicide Squad) put the spotlight on the Flash’s colorful and infamous gang of Rogues, led by Captain Cold — a particular favorite of Johns, the former Flash writer, as well as Finch. “I just love his mask,” the artist says. “He looks very steely and a little bit dead in the eye, which is very evil.”

Update: Two more one-shots have been announced: Reverse Flash & The Rogues.
