Jesse Quick Cast for Flash Season 2

CW has cast another speedster: Violett Beane will play Jesse Quick. According to TV Line:

Jesse — who will appear in multiple episodes of the CW smash — is characterized as a brilliant but quirky college student who gets caught up in the battle between The Flash and Season 2 Big Bad (the not-yet-cast) Zoom.

Jesse Quick was introduced in the early 1990s Justice Society of America series as the daughter of golden-age heroes Liberty Belle and Johnny Quick (not to be confused with the Crime Syndicate villain of the same name). When her parents split up, she followed her father’s legacy, using his super-speed formula as a hero and taking over his business when he died. She became a recurring guest in the Flash comics. She eventually reconciled with her mother, and when she temporarily lost her speed, she took on the Liberty Belle persona for a while. She has yet to be seen in the New 52/DC You, though a version of her did appear in the Ame-Comi Girls digital-first series a few years back.

Jay Garrick, Wally West, AND Jesse Quick! They’re going to need a team name by the end of the season!

Flash #43 Preview Featuring the Folded Man

Multiversity Comics has a preview of Flash #43, out in stores this Wednesday. The Folded Man takes the cover spot, but the preview is all about a certain escaped convict: Dr. Henry Allen.

Wally West Has Been Cast!

Variety reports that Keiynan Lonsdale will play Wally West in season two of The Flash. The Australian actor recently appeared in Insurgent as Uriah.

EP Andrew Kreisberg is quoted: “Just like when we met Grant for the first time, we instantly knew Keiynan embodied all the heart and courage of a hero. We are so excited to be bringing this much-beloved character onto the show.”

No further details have been revealed at this time. We don’t know when he’ll make his first appearance, how he’s related to Iris and Joe West in the TV continuity (in the comics, he’s Iris’ nephew by way of older brother Rudy), or even whether he’ll become Kid Flash (I can totally see Cisco picking that name) this season or later on.

Update: EW says he’ll “join the show as a series regular in the winter,” so we probably won’t see him in the first third of the season, but he’ll be around a lot for the rest of the year.

I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to seeing the live-action Wally West!

Legends Casting Update: Immortal and Reincarnated

Legends of Tomorrow has cast Hawkman and Vandal Savage.

Falk Hentschel will play Carter Hall alongside already-announced Ciara Renée as Kendra Saunders a.k.a. Hawkgirl. Legends of Tomorrow is using the reincarnation origin, tying the pair to ancient Egyptian mythology.

Casper Crump has been cast as Vandal Savage, the main villain for Legends of Tomorrow. As in the comics, Savage is an immortal, who has manipulated history for millennia as he moves toward world domination. (In some versions, he’s been various famous conquerors throughout history, faking his own death and then starting again. In others, he’s been the power behind various thrones.)

Both Hawkman and Vandal Savage will make their first appearance in this season’s Arrow/Flash crossover before moving on to Legends.

The Flash Classic

While we wait for season two of the new Flash TV series, WB has released all of the 1990 TV show to view for free on CW Seed!

The series ran for one year and starred John Wesley Shipp as Barry Allen, Amanda Pays as S.T.A.R. Labs scientist Dr. Tina McGee, and Alex Désert as fellow CSI Julio Mendez. The network wasn’t too keen on the Rogues, though the show runners managed to get versions of Mirror Master, Captain Cold and the Trickster (Mark Hamill) onto the show. And yes, some of those names should sound familiar!

The whole series is up for streaming right now, so you can binge-watch the whole thing or pick and choose.

Be aware that the tone is vastly different. Aside from just being an early 1990s TV show, it’s an interesting blend of camp and “this is serious” not unlike the Tim Burton Batman movies, and Central City has a very 1930s Art Deco look despite being set in what was then the present day.

It’s been a while since I watched it, but I’d recommend “Watching the Detectives,” the two “Trickster” episodes, “Ghost in the Machine” and “Deadly Nightshade.” Crimson Lightning reviewed the whole series when it came out on DVD, and you can check out their choices for best — and worst — episodes as well.
