Preview at MTV Geek. As noted before, this is the first of two issues where Francis Manapul is taking a break. He’ll be back on #20.

Also this week: the final chapter of Smallville Season 11 “Haunted” (guest-starring Impulse) arrives on ComiXology this Friday.

There aren’t any new digital backissues of Flash or Impulse this week.

This Week: Digital Smallville & Flash of Two Cities

The next digital chapter of Smallville Season 11: “Haunted” guest-starring Impulse arrives on ComiXology on Friday.

Today, two more issues of the 1987-2009 Flash series starring Wally West are available digitally.

Flash #122-123: Keystone City decides that it can no longer handle the cost of property damage from the Flash’s battles, and want him to leave town. The seaside town of Santa Marta, California, however, would love to have their own super-hero. And who better than the Flash to be a super-commuter?

Flash #123: Flash of Two Cities

The cover and title are, of course, an homage to the classic “Flash of Two Worlds” in the first Flash #123.

One thing that surprised me here is that, up until now, DC and ComiXology have been re-releasing the series in sequence. After an initial release of a dozen or two issues by theme, they started with #1 and have been working their way forward, filling in and around those issues that have already been released. Last time, they jumped straight from #115 to #120, skipping the last three issues of “Race Against Time” and the “Final Night” tie-in issue. I wondered if they might be jumping back to fill in the gap this week, but that isn’t the case, at least not yet.

I asked ComiXology about it, and they said that DC simply hadn’t sent them those issues yet. I haven’t heard back from DC.

This Week: Impulse & Arrowette, What Would Flash Do?

Impulse #60

The only new Flash comic book this week is the next chapter of Smallville Season 11 guest-starring Impulse, out on Friday.

As far as digital back-issues go, last week we got two Flash issues and no Impulse. This week, we get two Impulse issues and no Flash. The schedule is getting a little confusing!

Impulse #59: After going through an ordeal in Young Justice, Arrowette visits Bart in Manchester just in time for the Valentine’s Day dance, and begins to wonder…is middle school harder to deal with than super-villains? Todd DeZago, Anthony Castrillo, Prentis Rollins. Cover by Ethan van Sciver.

Impulse #60: Bart tries extra hard to be thoughtful, but when a new supervillain comes to town, he learns that sometimes you’ve just got to be…impulsive. Dwayne McDuffie, Eric Battle, Prentis Rollins. Cover by Jason Johnson.

This Week: Smallville, Shade TP, Earth 2, Presidential Race

The Shade TPBFlash-related comics out this week:

Earth 2 #10 begins “The Tower of Fate.”

Smallville Season 11 #11 continues “Haunted,” the four-parter guest-starring Impulse. Jay Garrick also guest-stars in this issue as Bart and Superman seek to unravel the mystery of the Black Flash. The next digital chapter arrives on Friday.

The Shade miniseries from 2011-2012 is collected in trade paperback. The Shade has come a long way since his origins as a Golden Age Flash villain. (Note: This technically takes place in the New 52 continuity, but off in a corner such that it could easily share a universe with James Robinson’s Starman.)

In digital backissues, ComiXology takes a break from their regular schedule, and has jumped ahead a few issues to release Flash #120-121, the two-part “Presidential Race” featuring Wally West and Pied Piper vs. The Top.

First Look at The New Reverse-Flash! [SPOILERS]

In addition to the climactic showdown between Flash and Grodd for Central City and the Speed Force, today’s Flash #17 gave readers the first look at the new Reverse-Flash!

negativeflash

Speculation on the villain’s new identity has been rampant since the announcement that there would be an all-new Reverse-Flash for the New 52.  Kelson presented an analysis of the possibilities and guest writer Scott Timms made the case for erstwhile Flash Wally West as the new opposite number for Barry Allen’s heroic identity.  While the identity remains a mystery, today’s issue provided the first look and at least answered a couple of the up-front questions.  Follow the jump for the reveal!

Beware, SPOILERS for FLASH #17’s reveal of the new REVERSE-FLASH are after the jump.  You’ve been warned!

Flash #17 Preview and This Week’s Flash & Impulse

Flash #17 Final Cover

DC has released a preview of Flash #17, out this Wednesday, on The Source:

After the exciting events of last issue, The Flash has transported himself and Gorilla Grodd into the Speed Force for a final showdown! This month, Barry Allen’s battle with Grodd comes to its bone-crunching conclusion in the finale of “Gorilla Warfare”. Will The Flash be able to defeat Grodd, who now shares the power of the Speed Force? And can Central City survive without the help of the Scarlet Speedster? Find out in THE FLASH #17, which also features the introduction of one of The Flash’s greatest foes! In stores this Wednesday, THE FLASH #17 comes to you from the creative team of Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato. Click here for an exclusive preview of the issue.

The “greatest foe” being introduced is the new Reverse-Flash as announced back in November. We’ve speculated on the villain’s identity a few times, since the next storyline (beginning in Flash #20 after Francis Manapul takes a two-issue break) will focus on that question.

Justice League Beyond continues its “Flashdrive” storyline on Saturday while Smallville Season 11 takes a week off to focus on a side story.

Meanwhile, in digital re-releases at ComiXology….

Flash #115: Race Against Time!

The Flash #114-115: “Race Against Time” continues as Wally West bounces around the future, encountering the Tornado Twins Don and Dawn Allen, and later John Fox, guardian of the Time Museum. In the present day, Fox tries to take Wally West’s place (in more ways than one) as he investigates a missing Iris Allen and the threat of an impending ice age. Also: Speed Metal. Mark Waid with Anthony Castrillo, Jim Cheung & Anibal Rodriguez on the John Fox pages; Oscar Jimenez & Jose Marzan, Jr. on the Wally West pages.

Impulse #57

Impulse #57: A special Christmas issue with Impulse, Plastic Man, and Mr. Mxytzptlk. Do you really need to know anything else? Todd Dezago, Ethan van Sciver, Prentis Rollins.

Impulse #58: Max Mercury takes center stage as we learn of a tragic event from his past involving inventor Lucius Keller…an event that will one day impact the distant future, creating a “Dark Tomorrow.” Meanwhile, Bart gets a virus. Todd Dezago, Ethan van Sciver, Jamal Igle, Prentis Rollins.
