Morrison/Millar Flash Hardcover in 2016

Flash #130 square (Emergency Stop)Amazon has a listing for The Flash by Grant Morrison & Mark Millar, a hardcover collection coming in April 2016. Morrison and Millar co-wrote one year of Wally West’s series back in 1998-1999, while Mark Waid and Brian Augustyn took time out to do JLA: Year One. Paul Ryan and John Nyberg did the art on the first few stories, with Pop Mhan and Chris Ivy taking over for the final story, “The Black Flash.” Steve Lightle did the covers for the full run.

The timing is undoubtedly related to Morrison’s upcoming Multiversity Too: The Flash OGN.

Back when the softcover collection was announced, this site’s very first news post (after the “Welcome!” article) featured a quick run-down of the contents: Continue reading

Flash by Geoff Johns Collection Coming in Paperback

Wonderland (Flash #166)Among DC’s upcoming collections:

THE FLASH BY GEOFF JOHNS BOOK ONE TP
Written by GEOFF JOHNS
Art by ANGEL UNZUETA, DOUG HAZLEWOOD, SCOTT KOLINS, JOSE MARZAN, JR., and ETHAN VAN SCIVER
Cover by BRIAN BOLLAND
On sale NOVEMBER 25 • 368 pg, FC, $24.99 US

Geoff Johns’s unforgettable run on THE FLASH begins when Wally West finds himself without super speed in a darker, mirror version of Keystone City. Can a powerless Flash defeat Captain Cold and Mirror Master and save the city he loves? Plus, The Flash is shocked to learn that a strange cult is killing all the people he’s ever rescued. Collects THE FLASH #164-176 and THE FLASH: IRON HEIGHTS #1.

Some thoughts: This is almost the same contents as the hardcover Flash by Geoff Johns Omnibus vol.1 that came out in 2011. That book also started with “Wonderland” and “Blood Will Run,” ran through #176 and included “Iron Heights,” but also included “Flash: Our Worlds at War” and the story from “Flash Secret Files #3.” Given the page count, it makes sense to refactor the collections a bit, and this may even be a better place to break it. The Secret Files story works better as build-up to “Crossfire” than as a wrap-up to “Blood Will Run.”

The Flash is forced to take on the role of the Black Racer, harbinger of death! But can anyone escape this unlikely grim reaper?

DC hasn’t released a cover, but we now know who’s writing and drawing it. The SDCC announcement only mentioned Geoff Johns and a Francis Manapul cover, leading everyone to conclude that Johns was writing the one-shots along with Darkseid War.

Update: The list includes the print editions of several digital-first books, but no sign of a follow-up to Flash: Season Zero. The comic set in the TV continuity wraps up its digital run later this month, with the final print issue and collected edition TP hitting in September. DC might be letting the series rest for a bit, but I think it’s more likely they’ll launch the next tie-in book digitally in October, when the TV show returns, with the print edition launching in November.
