Flash/Impulse in Smallville Season 11?

It seems kind of silly putting a question mark in the title, but really, who else is an old friend running with Superman going to be?

From DC’s January Solicitations:

SMALLVILLE SEASON 11 #9
Written by BRYAN Q. MILLER • Art by JORGE JIMENEZ
Cover by SCOTT KOLINS
On sale JANUARY 9 • 40 pg, FC, $3.99 US • RATED T

  • The first time in print for these digital-first stories.
  • An old friend returns to the series with a new look. What terrible secret is he carrying?
  • The secret of “Earth Two” Chloe is revealed.

Smallville’s scarlet speedster is Bart Allen, played by Kyle Gallner. When he first appeared in season four’s “Run,” commercials advertised him as the Flash, but when he returned in the sixth-season episode “Justice,” he was given the code-name Impulse. (Green Arrow remarked that Bart “didn’t get to pick his nickname.”)

This version of Bart was a troubled teen who used his speed for petty theft until an encounter with Clark Kent put him on a more heroic path. He later joined forces with Green Arrow, Cyborg and Aquaman in what became the Justice League.

Presumably the silhouette is there to put off revealing his costume (unless DC has decided to replace Bart with Barry or something, but that seems unlikely), though it’s conceivable the “old friend” is another character entirely.

I haven’t been following the series, so I’m not 100% certain how the digital/print schedule works out, but my understanding is that every three digital chapters are collected in one print issue, so we’ll probably see this story on ComiXology in December.

Media Blitz: West(s) of Central City

Daniel West is resisting arrest.

His role isn’t big in Flash #0, but this random suspect being arrested had a name that no doubt caught the eye of many a reader: Daniel West.

DC Comics confirms that he is Iris West’s brother, and describes him as “a classic case of juvenile delinquency.”

Flash co-writer Francis Manapul continues:

Unfortunately for him, his first major crime is foiled by Flash’s first ever outing as a superhero. In the present, after having served his debt to society, Daniel just wants his old life back. All he wants is to go back home. But what he finds is a city over run by apes, and a sister that’s nowhere to be found. Welcome home indeed. He’ll be setting forth to find his lost sister amidst the disastrous events of ‘Gorilla Warfare!’

In the pre-Flashpoint continuity, Iris had one brother, Rudolph West, one sister, Charlotte West. I’m not sure we ever saw Charlotte, but Rudolph “Rudy” West made many appearances as Wally West’s father. (I think it’s safe to assume given Daniel’s age that he doesn’t have a son named Wally.)

It looks like we’ll finally return to Iris and the other speed force castaways soon. That’s one missing West down…

Flash Omnibus Vol.3 Recall

Last week Bleeding Cool reported on a printing error in the recently-release Flash Omnibus vol.3. A few story pages near the end were printed out of order, causing the sudden arrival of Linda and Wally’s twins to make a lot less sense than it did in the original release.

James’ Musings describes the error in detail, and just how it messes with the story.

The murder of the Wests’ unborn twins at the hands of the new Zoom completely shocked readers and altered the course of the mythology. It also nearly tore apart the Wests’ marriage for over a year and half before they achieved reconciliation. So, as I said, this scene in “Rogue War” is therefore the big surprise and payoff. This is the moment where thanks to the miracle of time-travel (and only in comics can you hear a phrase like ‘spontaneous conception via time-travel’), Zoom’s triumph becomes the Wests’ triumph. That the psychotic speedster was indirectly responsible for undoing his own tragedy was additional icing on the cake.

Further discussion at the DC Archives Message Board features scans of the problem pages and an email from DC to retailers:
