Flash(back): Animated Anthem

This is the intro for the Flash segments that ran during the Superman/Aquaman Hour of Adventure (1967-1968). Filmation produced three Flash cartoons in which the Flash and Kid Flash battled original evildoers including a giant mutated bug (The Chemo Creature, seen here), a mad scientist in a robot suit (Professor Crag), and an alien speedster (The Blue Bolt). Sadly, he didn’t actually “conquer the barriers of time and space” in any of the segments they produced.

Warner Bros. released all the non-Superman/Aquaman sequences on DVD a few years back, and I reviewed the set a couple of months after this blog went online.

Even setting aside the image quality, you can see that it’s a very different style from modern shows like Justice League Unlimited and Young Justice, or even Super-Friends. Continue reading

Wally West Spotlighted in Young Justice: Coldhearted

The upcoming Young Justice episode “Coldhearted” looks to be adapted from or inspired by Wally West’s first solo Flash issue. It features Wally West’s birthday, a cross-country run to deliver a heart for a transplant, and Vandal Savage.

Wally West comes oh-so-close to fulfilling his birthday wish to finally fight alongside the Justice League. Instead, a massively disappointed Kid Flash is taken off the mission and tasked with a simple delivery job. But a few deadly surprises await the birthday boy along the way….

Comic Book Resources has two clips and some stills from the episode. (Thanks to @CraigRMacDonald for the tip!)

Young Justice Video Game In The Works

Justice League: Doom Blu-Ray Release To Feature Exclusive Flash Figurine *Updated*

Retailer, Best Buy will be adding a little something extra to the Blu-Ray release of Justice League: Doom; an exclusive miniature Flash figurine. The figurine will be similar to past DC Animated release exclusives and will be the eighth statue released thus far:

Justice League: Doom is the latest direct to video film to be released through DC Animated. Slated for release February 28th, the film adapts the Tower of Babel story line from the “Morrison Era” League and penned by Mark Waid. In the story it is revealed that Batman has devised different methods of incapacitating his allies if they ever were to go rogue. Unfortunately the plans fall into the hands of the bad guys and we get to witness the fall out.

The story was adapted for the screen by the late, great Dwayne McDuffie and features Michael Rosenbaum, the voice of Wally West on Justice League and Justice League Unlimited and Lex Luthor on Smallville, as Barry Allen this time around.

I personally have to say, great move on DC’s part to include the  Flash figurine. Now I will be picking it up on launch day as opposed to not at all. Who else is picking up the release now that the Flash figurine has been added? Who would have picked it up otherwise? Let us know in the comments below.

Thanks to Phantom Stranger for the tip.

*****UPDATED*****

I picked up Justice League: Doom on my break today and I was able to snap some pictures of the exclusive Flash figurine:

“Lightning Strikes” DCU Online preview clips

IGN has posted some new clips from the “Lightning Strikes” Flash expansion pack for DC Universe Online. You can catch an animated promo video showing the Flash and some villains, as well as a scene of Barry Allen explaining the scenario’s mission to the player. And to top it off (oh man, I am so sorry), three videos showing gameplay against the Top, Pied Piper, and the Trickster. Yes, there are puns, and Piper tells you to “shake your groove thing”.

Eagle-eyed viewers may notice the Trickster is wearing the same costume as in the Infinite Heroes toy line. An interesting choice; perhaps the game designers borrowed the figure’s design art. All in all, it’s pretty cool to see some of the abilities and moves the Rogues have in the game, although not all the new ones are shown (Weather Wizard, Abra Kadabra and Professor Zoom will just have to wait).
