This Week: Two Collections & Dark Flash

Flash comics out this week:

Update: I must remember not to rush these posts. I somehow got the wrong pair of collections listed.

Gorilla Warfare (hardcover)

When Grodd and his gorilla army descend on Central City, The Flash will have to contend with a threat unlike any he’s faced before: murderous, ruthless and without principle. With mammoth strength and mind-control powers, Grodd will not stop until he conquers the city with its heroes blood on his hands. Knowing he cannot defeat this new foe alone, The Flash will need the help of his former enemies, the Rogues, if he wants to keep himself and Central City alive. This new hardcover collects THE FLASH #13-19.

Flash News: Villains Month, Zero Year, Forever Evil

A quick round-up of Flash news from this week:

Flash #25

November’s Flash #25 will tie into Batman: Year Zero, with a pre-Flash Barry Allen traveling to Gotham City. Chris Sprouse and Karl Story provide art for the Francis Manapul/Brian Buccellato story. MTV Geek has the details and interviews Manapul and Buccellato.

CBR talks to Brian Buccellato about the three Flash “Villains Month” issues featuring Grodd, Reverse Flash and the Rogues.

DC has preview pages of Villains Month Week 1 including Grodd and Villains Month Week 2 including the Reverse Flash.

DC has decided to retool Justice League 3000 before launch. Kevin Maguire has been replaced after drawing an entire first issue that won’t be published, and Howard Porter will take over art on the series, which will be pushed back to a December launch.

Finally, Geoff Johns reveals the real premise behind Forever Evil: Earth’s Villains aren’t just taking over in the absence of the heroes, they’re fighting against someone worse: the Crime Syndicate, alternate-reality evil versions of the Justice League, back on Earth 3 in the New 52 multiverse. The article at IGN includes a promotional piece featuring new designs for the villains including the Crime Syndicate’s speedster, Johnny Quick.

Attack! (Review of Earth 2 #15)

earth 2 15 coverEarth 2’s new Wonders are taking the fight to Steppenwolf…but things aren’t looking so great for our heroes. Just how powerful are the forces from Apokolips? The answer appears to be all too clear in the latest issue of Earth 2!

MILD SPOILERS AHEAD

This issue starts with Jay Garrick trying to remember just what hit him…and the rest of his team. Brutaal, the Beguiler and Bedlam have proven to be more than a match for the Flash, Green Lantern, the Atom and Doctor Fate. The fact that everyone is still alive is amazing…and a bit puzzling. Meanwhile, we get updates on Hawkgirl’s investigation into Sam’s death and Mr. Miracle and Barda’s fight against Fury…and things are simply not going our heroes’ way today. In the end, one more Wonder makes an appearance…but who is this new Wonder fighting for?

We still have James Robinson (for now) on this title – with another excellent story. Nicola and Trevor Scott on pencils/inks and Pete Pantazis on colors give us excellent artwork throughout – the battle scenes are outstanding in this action-packed issue. I can anticipate some concerns as to how easily our heroes are beaten down…but this story is far from over, and I’m looking forward to how this is resolved as the arc moves ahead. Earth 2 remains one of my favorites titles in the New 52 – and this story is no exception.

This week in Flash comics:

Earth 2 #15

Update: Also out this week is the New 52 Captain Cold action figure from DC Collectibles.
