This Joker Will Be The Death of…Someone…But Who? (Review of Teen Titans #16)

Teen Titans #16 CoverThis issue of Teen Titans continues the “Death of the Family” story arc that has hit the Bat-titles with the Joker’s return to Gotham after a year’s absence.  He is creepier and more dangerous than ever before.  The Outlaws and Titans have begun to work together to stop the Joker’s attacks, but as we start this issue, Red Robin has been captured by the Joker and finds himself waking up next to Jason Todd!  As noted in the solicits, this issue also brings us the return of…Raven!

SOME MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD – PLEASE READ THE ISSUE BEFORE CONTINUING HERE!

Young Justice Cancelled?!?!

Young_Justice_Invasion

Hey Speed Readers,

So yesterday afternoon Cartoon Network released their 2013-2014 Fall schedule with two very noticeable omissions: Green Lantern: The Animated Series and Young Justice, currently the only place where Flash Family fans can get even a semblance of satisfaction. The series appear to have been replaced by a revived version of the old Teen Titans cartoon entitled Teen Titans Go! (after the comic adaptation) and the latest Batman animated venture, Beware The Batman.

Young Justice Returns Tomorrow 9/29 Plus Young Justice Video Game News and Screens

Hey Speed Readers,

Just a quick reminder (that I wanted to get up a lot earlier) Young Justice, featuring Kid Flash (Wally West) and Impulse (Bart Allen) as cast members will be returning from it’s mid-season hiatus tomorrow morning. The show has been on hiatus since June so many fans (like the team here at Speed Force) have been anxiously awaiting it’s return. Especially since this seems to be the only place that Wally West (and the Flash family) is getting any kind of love these days.

This Week: DC Universe Presents Kid Flash (with Preview), Plus Digital Flash & Impulse Back-issues

The New 52’s Kid Flash gets the spotlight in this week’s DC Universe Presents #12. CBR has a preview of the issue

KID FLASH stars in his first solo adventure, racing against time as he deals with the prehistoric trouble the TEEN TITANS brought back from MYSTERY ISLAND!

Meanwhile, ComiXology’s digital back-issue releases continue with Flash #49 (1990) and Impulse #9.

Flash #49: RIPFlash #49 is the second part of a three-parter leading up to the big Flash #50. Vandal Savage is dying, and he’s going to take the worldwide drug trade with him…no matter the collateral damage. But before he goes, he issues a very special challenge to the Flash: Wally West vs. a bullet…without his speed.

Needless to say, this cover made my gallery of Dead Flash Covers.

» Flash vol.3 on ComiXology

Impulse #9: XS guest stars when Speed Runs in the Family!Impulse #9 is a prelude to the Dead Heat crossover with The Flash. Bart Allen gets a surprise visit from a strange girl who turns out to be his cousin Jenni Ognats (A.K.A. XS) from the future. She’s been stranded in the past on a mission for the Legion of Super-Heroes. Can Bart help her get home? Can she blend in at a 20th-century middle school? And can either of them find the missing Max Mercury?

XS’ trip to our era takes her into “Dead Heat,” then one more issue each of Impulse and Flash, then Legionnaires Annual #3, in which she briefly meets her grandfather Barry Allen while jumping through time trying to make her way home.

» Impulse on ComiXology

I’m beginning to wonder about the Flash/Impulse schedule at ComiXology. After months of three Flash issues a week, they’ve slowed to one and added Impulse. Going sequentially, the next Flash will be an anniversary issue, and the next Impulse is part of a crossover with The Flash. Meanwhile, we’ve got the current Flash #12 coming out next week and The Flash Annual #1 the week after. Meanwhile on the print side, August sees three Flash reprint volumes: Flash Archives vol.6, Flash Chronicles vol.3, and Flash Omnibus by Geoff Johns vol.3. Could ComiXolgy be gearing up for a “Flash 201” sale sometime in the next few weeks?

Heroes Con Mini-Report: New Teen Titans Panel, George Pérez & Nick Cardy

I visited North Carolina on Friday to attend Day One of the 30th Charlotte Heroes Convention.  Billed as “comics-first…atmosphere, where fans can mingle directly with professionals and exhibitors,”  a massive collection of creators and vendors were on hand for the anniversary edition.  What drew me was the presence of George Pérez (Crisis on Infinite Earths, The New Teen Titans, decades of greatness).

I picked up the above commission at the convention, where Pérez was joined by Crisis and Titans partner Marv Wolfman.  The two, along with Pérez’s main Titans inker Romeo Tanghal, took part in a New Teen Titans panel at the outset of the convention.  For a report from the panel, as well as an encounter with Nick Cardy, follow the jump!

Young Justice: Legacy Screenshot Featuring Kid Flash

Flash video game news keeps on coming! This past Friday the upcoming game, Young Justice: Legacy’s Facebook page reached 2000 “likes” and as promised the developers, Little Orbit,  revealed a special screenshot featuring Kid Flash (Wally West):

The screenshot depicts Kid Flash facing down perennial Batman villain, Bane on the island of Santa Prisca, a fictional locale from the animated series. It is unclear what console this screenshot is from but I’m hoping that it is either from the Wii or just a really early build. I am by no means someone easily swayed by pretty graphics (a lot of my favorite games are 2D and from the 16 bit era or below) but I’ve just come to expect more in 2012; Especially when games routinely start out at 60 bucks a pop! This looks like something more akin to the Playstation 2 than a Playstation 3 or xbox 360. I can only hope that playing as Kid Flash will be as awesome as I think it will be.

Little Orbit has released 3 other screenshots throughout the month of May featuring various other members of the team that can be found at the Young Justice: Legacy Facebook page.

The game itself is due to be released in February of 2013 for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and DS.

What do you all think of the newest screenshot? Must buy, stay away, or too early to tell? Please let us know in the comments below.
