Just wanted to let you all know (if you didn’t already) that DC Collectibles New 52 Flash is now available at the DC Collectibles website, Comic Book & Collectible Shops and various online dealers. Oddly enough DC Collectibles website is only taking preorders for October 31st, 2012 at the moment while the figure has already been released worldwide.
For those interested in buying the Signature Collection Mirror Master figure, it’ll be available at Mattel’s site on August 15, starting at noon ET. Cost is $18 plus shipping.

About a month ago DC Entertainment (formerly known as DC Comics) announced that they would they be rechristening their collectible products line, previously known as DC Direct, with a new brand dubbed DC Collectibles. Not only that but they pledged to make it easier for those without a Local Comic Shop (like I) to purchase their entire products line via their own e-commerce online shop known as ShopDCEntertainment.com. The site is finally live!

Just a friendly reminder for those anxiously awaiting the release of Mattel’s DC Signature Collection Golden Age Flash, Jay Garrick, the figure goes on sale on Mattycollector.com this Tuesday, May 15, 2012. Of course those that signed up for the subscription (not I) will be getting theirs shipped out automatically. Although earlier this month Mattel posted on Matty’s news page that due to “logistics issues” the shipments of the figure won’t be arriving at the docks until pretty much the day of the sale. Due to that they’ve told customers to allow 5 to 7 additional days for orders containing the figure to arrive. Naturally the customers who subscribed to Club Infinite Earths 2012 will receive their orders first. The figure will set the rest of us back $18.99 usd plus shipping.

Comic Book Resources (CBR) released the first pictures of Wave 2 of the offshoot brand, DC Universe All-Stars to be released later next year in an interview with Associate Marketing Manager for DC Universe, Young Justice and Superman Danielle McLachlan, Mattycollector.com Marketing Manager Scott Neitlich, Batman Associate Marketing Manager Derick Deller and Warner Bros. Marketing Manager John Friberg.
Mattel announced a few months back that as of Wave 20 (featuring White Lantern Flash and Professor Zoom) DC Universe Classics will no longer be sold at retail. DC Universe Classics will instead become Mattel’s DC Universe Club Infinite Earths Subscription program. They will continue to release more varied characters from the rich history of the DC Universe using the subscription while their new retail line, DC Universe All-Stars is Mattel’s attempt to keep familiar characters in the store that parents will be more likely to recognize. Essentially any figure with a ‘Bat’ an ‘S’, or a ‘Lantern’ on it, as opposed to that “funky guy with the bandages” and ‘Captain Freeze’ that mom likely knows nothing about.

Not the largest picture, but we can see most of the details that we need to, including the fact they definitely skimped on the details with these figures as opposed to the DC Direct Prototypes we saw a few months back:
Mattel seems to be going for a less artist specific look than DC Direct which is usually the case. The result of which is the Mattel version looking more like Wally West than the new Barry Allen. I’m also seeing much more detail on the DC Direct version of the figure with the inclusion of the chin strap, modified wings and lightning accents on the torso. Mattel nailed the boots and raised emblem but missed the mark on the mask and wings. Hopefully both of these prototypes will see some changes before their final releases.

For those that haven’t heard yet there were some pics shown off at New York Comic Con this past weekend of the “New 52″ action figures coming up from DC Direct next year. As expected there were a few pictures shown of the new Flash action figure; TNI and Toy Ark have the goods:
What if instead of a motorcycle, Hot Pursuit used oh I don’t know, roller blades? Yes, Cosmic Roller Blades. That seems to be the concept behind the very, very hard to find Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Rocket Zoom Flash that I recently procured. Take a look:
And the Flashpoint news keeps coming! In addition to the character teaser and the cover, DC announced a line of Flashpoint action figures.
Today, we’re unveiling FLASHPOINT action figures based on DC Comics’ superhero publishing event of the summer. DC Direct’s Jim Fletcher, Shawn Knapp, Evan Metcalf, John Santagada, Brian Walters and Bryon Webster have worked closely with FLASHPOINT writer Geoff Johns’ concepts and artist Andy Kubert’s designs to bring you four awesome figures based on characters central to the FLASHPOINT story.
Sculptors Derek Miller (Wonder Woman), Karen Palinko (Batman and Flash) and Jonathan Matthews (Cyborg) have captured the energy and excitement that drives FLASHPOINT.

Finally some more Flash love on the collectibles end of things. This month we have three Flash pieces being released through DC Direct. Unfortunately two of them are basically just repaints and the other is an expensive statue of Barry Allen.
The first one, available today, is from the third series of JLA Classified Classics, Zoom (The Flash’s chief nemesis). I was inclined to think that this was Hunter “Sheisajeweltoyoouuuuu.” Zolomon rather than Eobard “As long as I kill Iris, everything will be alright.” Thawne due to the way the eyes were colored and because they simply named him “Zoom”. But then I noticed the direction of his belt. Not a real issue or anything as Hunter has been out of the picture for some time now. Still makes me lament Johns-Era Wally though.

Unfortunately I am not a huge fan of the style of these figures. I know that they are part of a artist-specific collection using Ed McGuinness’ art style as a template but I’m just not a fan of the overly muscled character designs and action figures. Especially on my Speedsters. I guess I already own the JLA Classified Flash so it would be cool to have Zoom to go along with him, but I won’t be rushing out to get it or anything.
Later on in the month we have the release of a Flash Two-Pack featuring repaints of Jay Garrick from DC First Appearances Series 1 and Wally West from Justice League of America Series 3 repainted to be Barry Allen:

These guys will be available the 17th, but frankly I am unimpressed with this offering. To be fair the Wally figure actually looks better when repainted to look like Barry and the paint jobs look to be really slick. But really two repaints? Not to mention Zoom might as well be a repaint too.
The only truly original offering this month will be on the 24th with the release of a Barry Allen statue that looks pretty slick but as I mentioned previously I have zero interest in it:
