Super Villain March Madness!

Last year, the followers of SpeedForce.org were a BIG factor in helping Barry Allen win in the DC vs. Marvel Superhero March Madness event at TMStash.com. This year, a number of Flash Rogues and other Flash bad guys are part of a NEW event…SUPER VILLAIN MARCH MADNESS!

The event has begun with a field of 68 villains, split into four regions. There are 30 DC and 30 Marvel bad guys, along with 8 Indie villains who are presently in their “Play-In” Matches (go to TMStash.com to vote in those matches). Beginning at 10 PM Eastern Time USA on March 17th, the BIG fun begins with eight matches, including Grodd, Zoom, and Vandal Savage. Later matches will include Captain Cold, along with a host of other DC baddies. It is YOUR votes that will make all the difference! You can get all the pairings at THIS LINK.

THE FLASH PODCAST LAUNCHES SUPERGIRL RADIO

TUESDAY, FEB 3!

New Fan Podcast Dedicated to the Upcoming Supergirl TV Show on CBS.

______________________________________________________________________

Friday, Jan. 23, 2015 – The Flash Podcast, which launched in December 2013 and was the first fan podcast for CW’s The Flash, is expanding its podcast circle with the launch of its first sister podcast Supergirl Radio, on TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 3rd!

Supergirl Radio is a fan podcast devoted to the upcoming Supergirl TV show on CBS, created by Arrow’s and The Flash’s Greg Berlanti and The New Normal’Ali Adler, and starring Glee’s Melissa Benoist as the titular superheroine.

Supergirl Radio will be helmed by female duo: Teresa Jusino and Rebecca Johnson, both of whom have made names for themselves analyzing pop culture individually, and will now be joining forces to celebrate the arrival of Supergirl to television.

This fan podcast will begin with a “Season Zero” – as The Flash Podcast did – from February through September 2015, where listeners will get to join the journey and discover more about Kara Zor-El a.k.a. Supergirl, the last daughter of Krypton. Once Supergirl debuts on CBS, Supergirl Radio will become your one-stop shop for all things related to the series. Andy Behbakht, host of The Flash Podcast, is a producer on the show and will work behind the scenes with our hosts.

Supergirl Radio “Season Zero” will provide an in-depth exploration of Supergirl’s history in the DC Comics Universe, dissecting both past interpretations of the character and the current New 52 version throughout the season, with episodes dedicated to iconic storylines and big events that have involved Supergirl. There will also be focus on Supergirl in other media in which she’s appeared, from movies to television and much more!

Supergirl is an upcoming superhero drama by Greg Berlanti (Arrow, The Flash) and Ali Adler (The New Normal, Glee, Chuck) that will be a new interpretation of Superman’s famous cousin as she discovers the heroine within her. Melissa Benoist (Glee, Whiplash) was cast on January 22 as the next person to take this iconic heroine to the skies.

CBS gave the Warner Bros. TV project a series commitment on September 19, 2014 and describes as following: “Born on the planet Krypton, Kara Zor-El escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.”

Flash of Two Shows and More

Flash of Two Shows featuring John Wesley Shipp and Grant Gustin from the 1990 and 2014 TV series.

Last week’s The Line it is Drawn post at Comics Should Be Good features Flash team-up art, including this piece by Xum Yukinori. Head over there for a whole mess of team-ups including Rainbow Dash, Cheetara, the Whizzer, the droid BB-8 from the new Star Wars, plus less speedy partners like the Rocketeer, the Spirit, the Savage Dragon and more. Also: Professor Xum.

Flash Photography: Long Beach Comic Con 2014

Double-Flash Photography Captain Cold (New 52)

I didn’t see a whole lot of Flash costumes at Long Beach Comic-Con last weekend — which was kind of surprising, seeing as how the TV show starts Tuesday! — but I did spot the Golden Age Flash couple who made a splash at SDCC, and a New 52-style Captain Cold. (Also: two or three Elsas and at least one Jack Frost. I hope they all ran into each other at some point.)

I also got to visit the S.T.A.R. Labs Mobile Research Unit promoting the TV show, which was fun, both for the exhibits and for the Allen case bulletin board. Check out Monday’s article for photos and a writeup of the exhibit.

Finally, Norm Rapmund was selling these prints by Brett Booth and himself, featuring the major players in the current story arc. He was selling a limited edition (as in 25 copies!) of the uncolored image, and I was tempted. It looked really striking in black and white as well, but it was also twice as much, and I liked the way the present/future Barrys split the image into red and blue.

Head over to K-Squared Ramblings for my full con writeup and photos!

Norm Rapmund will be right back

A Trip to SDCC 2014

Iron Man, Flash and Red HoodThis year’s trip to Comic-Con International in San Diego went a bit better than last year, when I ended up losing an entire afternoon to an ER visit. That didn’t happen this year. Even better: we managed to catch some fascinating panels, meet some artists and writers, find some cool stuff, see people in awesome costumes, and even learn some useful information.

Sadly, I didn’t make it to the Flash pilot screenings, since they were Wednesday and Saturday, and my tickets were for Thursday and Friday. But I did get to see the extended preview and cast/crew discussion panel for iZombie, which looks like it’ll be a lot of fun in a Pushing Daisies/Veronica Mars/Buffy sort of way.
