Quick hits: Linda Park added to Flash TV cast

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Flash TV show is adding Linda Park as a recurring role, played by Malese Jow (The Vampire Diaries).

The character is described as a quick-witted reporter for the Central City Picture News. She befriends Iris (Candice Patton) while at work and helps her navigate the fast-paced world of journalism. When she meets Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) at a local bar, the two hit it off. The character will first appear in episode 112.

As others have noted, the character made a brief appearance in the pilot episode on news coverage of the STAR labs particle accelerator, played by a different actress. She would hardly be the first character to be recast or retooled after a show goes from pilot to series.

Captain Boomerang Cast For Arrow

IGN reports that actor Nick Tarabay has been cast as Captain Boomerang for season three of Arrow — and it’s not a huge stretch to guess that he’ll eventually cross over to the Flash series as well. Tarabay is best-known for playing Ashur on the television series Spartacus.

The TV series’ Captain Boomerang is described as a “former A.R.G.U.S operative, highly skilled in martial arts and espionage, with a deadly thirst for vengeance against his former employers.” It is reported that he’ll appear in episodes 7 and 8 of Arrow; as IGN notes, episode #8 is the crossover with the Flash series.

There have been unofficial rumblings of a potential Suicide Squad series for a while now, and when I saw Arrow‘s Stephen Amell at Fan Expo last month he said he wanted the team to guest-star in multiple episodes. One wonders if Digger will eventually be joining the Squad.

Amanda Pays Returns as Dr. Tina McGee on THE FLASH

Some surprise casting news: the Flash TV Show has officially added the role of Dr. Tina McGee, a regular from the early days of Wally West’s solo Flash comic and co-star of the 1990 TV Flash series…and they’ve got Amanda Pays back to play the character! (via CBR.)

Rather than a scientist at S.T.A.R. Labs, this version of Dr. McGee works for a rival firm.

“When we decided to bring Tina onto our version of ‘The Flash,’ who better to get than the amazing actress who originated the part?” “Flash” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg is quoted by Variety. “Like with John Wesley Shipp, we are so proud and excited to have another actor from the original series join us on our new adventures for Barry Allen.”

No word yet on which episode she’ll appear in, or whether the role is intended to be recurring.

Hot off the Presses: Heat Wave Cast in THE FLASH TV Show

The Hollywood Reporter brings the news that Dominic Purcell has been cast as Heat Wave…and he’ll be teaming up with Captain Cold in Episode 10!

Captain Cold debuts in episode four, and is played by Wenworth Miller. Amusingly, the two actors last worked together on the show Prison Break, where they played brothers…appropriate given the almost sibling rivalry that Heat Wave and Captain Cold tend to display. (via Flash TV News)

Flash TV Quick Hits: Girder Cast

Hypable reports that actor Greg Finley has been cast as Girder in the upcoming Flash TV series. He’ll apparently appear in episodes 6 and 7, the latter which he’ll share with Clock King.

Girder gets his powers from the same particle accelerator accident that empowers Barry, and the two have a lifelong connection: Girder used to bully Barry when they were children. After the accident, he learns that he can “transform his skin into living metal”, and utilizes his new abilities for crime. (Assuming this description is accurate, it sounds like his TV incarnation will be more like Colossus than comicsverse Girder.)

Finley has appeared on such shows as Star-Crossed and The Secret Life Of The American Teenager.
