Comic-Con News: Flash

DC Booth: Justice League

I’m back from Comic-Con, and trying to both catch up and readjust to the real world. My first batch of photos are already up on Flickr, and I plan on getting the rest of them posted tonight, and the convention write-up over the next day or two.

There really wasn’t a whole lot of news about the Flash at the con. They just reiterated what we know from solicitations and previous interviews: After the annual, we get to learn what makes Barry Allen tick in the origin flashback (adding new details around what we already know, rather than completely redoing it), then Gorilla Grodd invades Central City and the Flash has to team up with the Rogues. Wally West remains nowhere to be seen in the new DCU.

We did learn that Mattel will release a Wally West figure as part of their subscription line, and that Flash and Kid Flash will meet “at some point.”

Hey Speed Readers,

Unless you’ve been living underground for the last six months or so you have to be aware that SDCC 2012 officially began today and while there isn’t a ton of Flashy news on the collectibles front, one awesome thing stands out!

Wally West will finally be released as a Mattel Action Figure:

Injustice: Gods Among Us Gameplay Video Featuring The Flash

Hey Speed Readers,

As the latest Justice League video game, Injustice: Gods Among Us (due out in 2013) gets further along in development, Ed Boon and the folks at NetherRealm studios are keeping us in the loop with this recent bit of extended gameplay footage. So far we’ve been privy to various bits of videos, some wallpapers and art of the confirmed characters featured in the title. Now Ed Boon via IGN brings us 15 minutes of gameplay featuring The Flash vs. Superman (As well as Grundy and Batman which can be seen HERE!

Some pics courtesy of IGN via Screencap:

From the character select screen. It looks like we will be getting a total of 12 Heroes and 12 Villains for a combined total of 24 characters. Unless they are already included in this build I could see us getting a couple more characters via DLC (Download Content). At least this time around all the characters should be DC-related.

Speeding to San Diego: Plans for Comic-Con

Death Star Cannon View at the San Diego Convention Center

It’s that time of year again! Comics and other pop culture fans of all stripes are descending on San Diego, California this week for Comic Con International.

Speed Force will be there: I’ll be on the floor myself three days out of four, and of course we’ll be monitoring the news coming from the con.

If you want a fan’s eye view of the con and can’t wait for the blog updates, keep an eye on…

  • Live updates at @SpeedForceOrg on Twitter. That’s where I’ll be posting live during the day.
  • Photos on Flickr, posted nightly if I have time, or by the end of the weekend. (Here are my galleries of photos from past conventions.)

Flash news will go up here on Speed Force as time permits, and my full convention write-up will go on K-Squared Ramblings as usual.

Amazingly, this will be the tenth San Diego Comic-Con I’ve reported on online. Check out my past convention coverage (write-ups, photos and more) if you’re interested in how the con (and my approach to it) has changed.

This Week: Digital Flash(back) #37-39

This week’s digital backissues on ComiXology include Flash #37-39. After witnessing an ancient Atlantean sorcerer fight off terrorists on live television, a depressed Wally West decides he just might be able to find himself at the Celestial Enlightenment Ranch. But reporter Linda Park isn’t convinced the spiritual retreat, or its leader, is on the level, and goes under cover to expose the truth. She expects to find it’s just a scam to separate rich people from their trust funds. She doesn’t expect to find herself possessed by the spirit of an 800-year-old Irish bard.
